Cubs is for Boys and Girls from the age of 8 years to 11 years of age. We are a very active cub pack.  We are cubs – but why should you?

1. Try over 200 activities From archery and acting to street sports and zorbing, being a Cub gives you the chance to get stuck into loads of activities you wouldn't normally get to do.

2. Make new friends Going to your Cub meetings is a chance to meet up with your mates, have a laugh and do lots of exciting activities. You'll meet adventurous people just like you who want to do something a little different.

3. Have fun Chief Scout Bear Grylls says life is about grabbing opportunities! We agree! Above everything else, Scouting is all about enjoying yourself, whatever you're doing – and there'll always be plenty to do!

4. Get outdoors As a Cub, you get to explore the big outdoors and travel to new places and try new things. Cubs better than being stuck in the house with nothing to do, right?

5. Learn exciting things Not many people know about the stars at night, how to sail a dinghy or make a sausage stew on a campfire, but you soon will! Cubs helps you learn lots of new and amazing skills – and you get to earn badges and rewards along the way.

Dear Cub Parent (an open letter from a Cub Leader). I have often told the parents of my cubs that your children are your children but they are also my cubs. By this, I mean that I value the relationship you have with your child and that I am there to strengthen that relationship as best I can. I also mean that your child, my cub is as important to me, I will protect, nurture and care for them whilst they are in my care. I will do my very best to ensure that the lessons they learn with me are taken home for you to enjoy. Cub lessons look like paper cars and Chinese lanterns, but they are much more than that, they are lessons in teamwork, responsibility, service and duty. I am teaching your child, my cub to be the best themselves that they can be. I have heard that a cub will not be attending a camp because they are being punished for a wrong-doing. Whilst I respect your decision and parenting style, I would like to suggest that keeping them away from camp is not actually a punishment that you would like to consider. It is true that camp is fun, and I can understand how it would seem like a fitting punishment. In truth as a Cub Leader, I actively promote the fun part of camp, because how else would I get the Cubs to want to be there. Perhaps though as a parent you do not know that there is much more to a Cub Camp than just fun! You need to know is that at camp, underneath the fun we are teaching your child certain valuable lessons: Teamwork – they have to work within a team and participate in the success of the team. Responsibility – they are responsible for their own belongings. Service – they clean up the campsite, to leave a place in a better condition than they received it. They are encouraged to assist one another and the adults at the camp. Hygiene – cleaning their own dishes and taking responsibility for their own grooming and personal hygiene. Relationships – they learn how to make friends and build relationships with new people and people with differing backgrounds from their own. Skills – they learn new skills and grow their general knowledge Respect – respect for other leaders and helpers as well as respect for peers and most importantly self-respect. The valuable lessons of a Cub camp are lessons that your children will carry with them into adulthood. Please don’t punish your children by keeping them away from camp, I know that you would really rather not have them miss out on these important life lessons. Please when a cub leader holds a camp, be the first to respond with a “YES” and make sure that your child is there. You can always punish them by removing technology for a time. This has been borrowed from another leader who sent it out. But all rings true to us too.

When a young person is set free to explore the world around them. Even when it is only a campsite where they have never been before they let their imagination run free. They have the most awesome adventures. When with friends the adventures is even greater, i know when I was in cubs and had free time had the most awesome adventures and memories that will last a life time. Now as an adult being with the cubs on these adventures and seeing their excitement is still amazing. People moan about all kids want these days is computers but set them free on a campsite no computers or phone in a safe environment their true beings come out and they can be kids once again.
