FLAG DAY SAT 14TH OCT Why not finish off the season by joining us in our Open Pairs Flag Day? The competition is open to Gents, Ladies and Juniors – paired in any combination. It’s a handicapped event and sure to be an enjoyable day. Playing in Greensomes format (both drive, pick best, then alternate shots) each pair is allocated a set number of strokes, based on combined handicap, and you play until strokes run out – at which point you mark the distance with a flag. Club Championship Final The Club Championship Final was held today at the club and proved to be one of the hardest fought finals in many years. Defending Champion Alan Vickers was being challenged by one of our Juniors David Hood and with both being low handicap players the prospect of a tight game lived up to it's expectations. Alan led after the first 18 holes by 1 hole but after the break both players could not make the break away from each other and it went to the 36th hole with David 1 up, a miraculous 2nd shot by Alan while aiming for a hidden green as he was stuck behind trees proved that he wasn't for relinquishing his title. Alan won the 36th hole and it went to play off, both players halved the 37th hole and when it came to the 38th hole Alan kept his nerve and made the winning putt. Congratulations to Alan for holding onto his crown again! Alan is a worthy Champion in more than a skill sense, his encouragement to his opponents and etiqutte is 2nd to none. Commiserations to David, he fought a hard game and pushed the Champ all the way, he'll be back to challenge again. Thank you to Bill Brysland for being the referee and for keeping the game flowing. A special thank you to Gavin our Head Greenkeeper, after recent rain the course was in fantastic condition and the greens were fit for a final, thanks Gavin. Thanks again to all involved for making it an epic final. Well done Alan.
