Argaty Red Kites

Lerrocks Farm, Doune, United Kingdom
Wildlife Sanctuary

Description

ad

Central Scotland's only red kite feeding station. We are open all year round with the exception of a few days. (For feeding times, see long description) Here on our farm just north of Stirling, visitors can watch these exciting birds and their spectacular flying. The hide and Visitor Centre is open all day, but feeding time is the best time to visit.  In winter (from last Sunday in October), visitors should arrive prompt for 1.30pm but between 21st February and Saturday the last Saturday in October we would ask visitors to arrive for 2.30pm. (Booking advised)

Just a quick note to thank one of our original volunteers. Marian White has helped us enthuse visitors about red kites over the last 13 years and many of you will have met her. Marian has decided to move back to Northern Ireland to be closer to family. Although she will be missed, we wish Marian all the best for her future........just a quick calculation, but approximately 65,000 visitors will have seen the felt red kite (in picture) that Marian made for us back in 2003!

Good to see that some of the Scottish ospreys have returned ( this bird was at Loch of The Lowes yesterday). This juvenile red kite has no respect for the journey this male osprey has just made. Hopefully ours will return and FINALLY attract a mate! Thanks to Marion Moore for this fantastic photo.

After years solely having an Aberdeen Angus bull producing either dark brown or black calves, the addition of the Short-horn bull is certainly adding a bit of variety!

Great record of one of the 2013 buzzards from the farm being spotted for the first time. This bird has travelled 100+ miles and settled near Annan in D&G. https://www.youtube.com/watch? thanks to John Watson for this video log - v=8dkKDaKXq1g&feature=youtu.be
