Well Howe Fans so ends another fantastic weekend at the club. This weekend we had the pleasure of hosting a surprise 50th birthday for one of our Howe Knights - Eddie Burnett, the same night the lads came back from Haddington with the 7's trophy. Today we facilitated the East Fife Triathlon Event and our Howe Harlequins powered themselves to a win against Helensburgh. All-in-one a truly amazing weekend. Well done Team Howe!! #howerugby

We wanted to share our latest update from Chris in New Zealand... Hi everyone. Just to give you all a quick update on how things are going here in New Zealand.......... I'm still getting over the jet lag as I was up for around 35 hours after my luggage didn't arrive in Christchurch, but my host family have been great and I've settled into the Kiwi lifestyle. My desk is right in the middle of Canterbury HQ next to all the coaches offices. My window looks out on to the pitch, so the likes of Israel Dagg is constantly running by doing his rehab in the dead ball area. It's taken some getting used to not to be completely star struck. My manager is a man called John Haggart. He is taking me through this programme and mentoring me. John has coached Canterbury, the Highlanders and is now IHPU manager for the Crusaders and Director of Rugby at Lincoln University who are NZ's best Uni team and the club I am attached to for the duration of my stay. I've been working closely with Nathan Mauger, brother of All Blacks legend Aaron, who is a skills coach for the Crusaders. We have mainly been doing sessions with the Academy players and I had the privilege of taking a micro skills session with him yesterday afternoon at Lincoln. This weekend, we have a match against Marist Albion and Tom Sanders who currently plays for the Chiefs will be playing No. 8 for us. Kieran Read is also returning to play and will be playing for Canterbury University who are in the same league. That should give you a fair idea of the level that Division 1 players are at! So far it has been an intense but phenomenal experience. Yesterday morning I had the chance to meet and chat with the All Blacks' mental skills coach and I am having a follow up meeting with him next week. The Crusaders are also back to a full working week and I am scheduled to be 'intimately involved' in their training sessions. I will be in the gym on Wednesday morning to work with the 9's and 10's during "Half back mastery". I am also due to sit in on some team strategy meetings in the run up to the game versus the Sunwolves next Friday. All of the above is the stuff of dreams, but what has hit me the most has been how simple everything is. I visited Burnside RC with Pat Parfrey, a Canadian internationalist and we counted 20 rugby pitches with pylons running through the middle of the park. It was so basic, but this was Division 1. No grandstand, no floodlights or even a fence. It was just a changing shed and 20 rugby pitches. All club games are free for the public to attend and will usually involve professional level players. The other most noticeable element of ruby here is the ball. The ball is everywhere. I haven't seen a single game of touch before training. All players are doing is practicing their handling or catch pass as they refer to it. I was in with the Crusaders level 4 academy players for a conditioning session last night which lasted 45 minutes and was brutal. Afterwards, every player stayed behind and practiced 3 v 2's handling in a 5m space inside the gym for about an hour. There were two handling errors. The standard and skill level is incredible. I have had an incredibly busy and intense start and have just received my schedule for next week, which is again a step up in intensity. I'll keep you updated and try and post a couple of pictures. Oh and finally, there has hardly been a word spoken about the Lions tour. Everyone here is so focussed on Canterbury and the All Blacks and they are not fancying the Lions' chances!

Good evening Howe Fans! We have some exciting news regarding our very own Chris Martin. Chris is currently about to start 2 weeks training with Christchurch Crusaders. The International High Performance Unit was established in 2008 and gives players and coaches the opportunity to set personal learning objectives and immerse themselves in a professional environment, in the hot bed of world rugby, Canterbury, New Zealand. Current Scotland caps Jonny Gray, Finn Russell and John Barclay have all attended the IHPU as players and current Glasgow coaches Gregor Townsend and Mike Blair attended the coaches IHPU very recently. Former Howe player and Edinburgh Rugby head coach, Ian Rankin also attended the IHPU at the beginning of his professional career. Chris has been selected to attend the IHPU as an upcoming coach is now in New Zealand and starts work with the Crusaders, based in Christchurch. Chris will be working alongside some of the worlds leading coaches including former All Blacks, Scott Robertson, Rueben Thorne and Leon MacDonald, as well as being in the Crusaders environment with the likes of current All Blacks, Kieran Read, Sam Whitelock and Israel Dagg. This is an incredible opportunity for Chris, but very importantly, for the Howe and what Chris can bring back to the club. On returning from New Zealand, Chris will share his experience with all club coaches and players who wish to gain an isight into the super rugby and New Zealand rugby environment through a presentation evening at Duffus. We want to wish him well and look forward to hearing from him soon!
