Strathearn Artspace - SCIO SC 044319
Description
“Creativity breeds development, improvement, commerce and contributes a fuller life for all.” Our Vision
To produce a self-sustaining arts centre that will invigorate the Strathearn art scene and its creativity throughout the area.
To promote inclusion of all potential client groups.
To attract creative people into the area, who will in turn encourage and build new businesses in the town, which will in turn bring in revenue and activities.
Creativity
Creativity is the core focus of our proposal. We will show creativity, innovation and consummate problem solving throughout our development of this project.
Ultimately, over a four year period, the centre will house theatre, music, and comedy performances, visual art workshops, art exhibitions, and conference and meeting facilities.
We anticipate the centre will be a magnet, attracting a diverse range of creative people into the area who in turn may seek to open new businesses in the town, with potential revenue streams for Crieff.
Location
Ideally the arts centre will be close to the town centre so as to maximise visibility and accessibility and thereby encourage interest from both the local community and visitors to the town.
We believe the former municipal library would be the ideal location. It is in the heart of the town; it has great internal space and was formerly a focus for the community. In addition the building is close to car parking facilities and three major banks with ATM’s plus there is excellent disabled access from street level.
We expect the building to be of significant benefit to Crieff and Strathearn and once again draw people into the town centre.
Business Objectives
The fundamental business objective of our proposal is to offer a unique asset for this area and it’s community, to enhance the creative provision for a broad range of groups and ages. Also we hope to create direct employment for local people and stimulate additional enterprises in the town and areas further a field.
Key Activities
1/ Teaching of various recreational and further educational visual arts classes (introductory drawing and painting, beginners oil painting, watercolour painting, life drawing, ceramic sculpture, pottery, printmaking, introductory jewellery classes, animal illustration and portfolio preparation etc). This would include outreach teaching projects to groups of all ages and social demographics. When not in use, the teaching room would be hired out to other local creative classes and groups in our community.
2/ A vibrant exhibition space for cutting edge accessible contemporary art and art with a local focus. In addition we intend to have at least one local history project display per year.
3/ Cinema facilities that will show main stream and art house films several times a week. We will also hold regular weekend genre film festivals (romantic, thriller, horror etc).
4/ Auditorium A flexible space for visiting lecturers (i.e. high profile artists, visual, literary and theatrical) & film viewing area (digital projector with suitable sound etc). This space will be easily converted into a meeting area with 10 tables seating up to 60 people. With this flexibility the auditorium will have many potential income streams.

Tickets still available!!! What an opportunity to see this fabulous play presented by this top line theatre company, Eden Court. "The Return" by Ellie Stewart France, 1560. In the foothills of the Pyrenees, Bertrande tends to her livestock and mothers her young son, seven years after her husband disappeared. One day a stranger, Arnaud, walks into her life, and before long they decide to present him to the world as her long-lost husband – returned. But is it possible that it really is her husband? Inspired by the true story of Martin Guerre, The Return is a gripping play about the mystery of identity and the survival instinct, and asks whether we can ever truly know even those we love the best. Commissioned and premiered by Eden Court, and written by Ellie Stewart, a rising star of Scottish playwriting, The Return is produced by the same creative team behind Eden Court’s Not About Heroes in 2015. “In Howard’s hands, this Eden Court, Inverness production lifts MacDonald’s play out of its own seemingly stiff-upper-lipped roots and invests it with a theatrical richness that gives it gravitas and depth” The Herald on Not About Heroes “…[a] tale of birth, death and survival that is ancient and rustic, yet so deeply human that it seeps into modern bones” Edinburgh Review on Mischief by Ellie Stewart
Friday night it's film night. Check out the themed decor for Finding Dory.
Based on the novel by Compton Mackenzie and shot on the island of Barra, Michael Balcon’s original film stars Basil Radford, Joan Greenwood and of course 50,000 cases of whisky. Todday is suffering the worst of deprivations – a lack of whisky – when a shipwrecked cargo ship offers them an answer to their prayers. But how can they outwit the authorities and the prying eyes of Captain Waggett? There’ll be no drought at the Artspace as we toast this classic film with a nip of whisky. Ticket includes complimentary wee dram or soft drink. Doors open 7pm for 7.30pm. Please note there will be an interval. Licensed bar in operation.

What a fantastic Crieff crowd for our Hogmanay bash. Really Wonderful vibe for all ages. I hope all enjoyed the great atmosphere every dance had a full floor. Planning next years Ceilidh tomorrow. Watch this space. Happy new year to all our Volunteers, supporters and event attendees. Look forward to seeing you all this 2018.
With Hogmanay fast approaching, we want to wish you all the compliments of the season and thank you for being part of the Strathearn Artspace during the last year. If you've come along to any of the events we hope you enjoyed them and we're looking forward to introducing more and more varied and exciting events during 2018. Look out for announcements on the programme in January. If you've volunteered for the Artspace during the year, a heartfelt thanks - we couldn't do it without you. And as for the trustees, we're pleased to say that the present board were re-elected at our AGM on 7 December, along with a new addition, Raymond McMaster, who we're delighted to welcome to the team. We're taking a break in January to take care of some essential maintenance and also hope to raise the necessary funds to renovate the floor. It's going to be quite a job removing the old 1960s glue from 160 square metres and replacing it with some specialist varnish, that's why we're hoping that we can enlist as many people as possible to fund a square metre. £20 will cover the cost of one square metre and if you want to see what it might look like, here's one we did earlier. If you'd like to fund a square metre (or more) then drop a line to our Treasurer, Barry Hargrave, and he'll be in touch. Or, if you're coming to the Ceilidh on Hogmanay*, you'll be able to see the difference for yourself and make a donation on the spot if you wish. A revitalised floor will make such a difference to many of the activities we and others run at the Artspace, including plans for a new monthly Tea Dance . . . more news of that to follow in the New Year. * now sold out So from all us to all of you - thank you - a very merry Christmas and we look forward to seeing you soon!

What a great production of this fab play by Strathearn's own George Carson. Strathearn Artspace loves seeing new innovative productions starting with us.
Want to get in the mood for Christmas? How about this classic film and some great company.
