The home of UoC's Performing Arts Department. We offer BA and MA courses in Drama & Theatre Studies, Dance, Performing Arts, Popular Music Performance and Popular Music Studies.
We also offer joint degrees in Popular Music Studies and Drama & Theatre Studies.
The department is housed in the Kingsway Buildings a few minutes away from the Parkgate Road Campus. We have four large multi-purpose performance spaces, music rehearsal rooms, computer suites and seminar/lecture facilities.
Performing Arts has a team of committed staff - teachers who believe in creating the best possible atmosphere of support and encouragement for all their students. In the last Research Assessment Exercise, this department was declared to be of international standing, so you belong to a department where cutting edge scholarship in the disciplines will inform all your learning. Meet the staff here: http://www.chester.ac.uk/departments/performing-arts/staff
There are number of programmes spanning the breadth of disciplines within Performing Arts with undergraduate degrees in Drama, Dance, Music and Performing Arts and postgraduate degrees in Dance, Drama and Popular Music. We stress the value of practical work and give students the time to explore practically the terms and concepts that they will be hearing about in more formal classes.
The programmes will allow you to engage in the practice and theorise about what it is you are doing, which promotes a broader understanding of performance. This interplay of theory and practice in the contemporary performing arts is centre to the Department's ethos and is expressed through teaching and learning, professional practice, consultancy and research, and through the development of a performance culture.
By the end of your programme you will be equipped with the necessary subject- based and transferable skills to progress into a career as a confident, enterprising and independent practitioner where your knowledge and experience can be applied to a wide range of contexts.

A piece using Afro Cuban, Breaking, Rocking and Contemporary dance theatre to focus on the female perspective. Themed around the slang word for woman as ‘chick’ or ‘hen’, Ladylike is a celebration of wonderful women and a provocative protest at gender roles, the masks we wear, sexual violence and sexism. Absurd, comical and romantic, four wild women ceremoniously undress timeless and universal stories of womanhood. This work contains some scenes of a sexual nature. Public £10, Concession £8, Student £5 Tickets available here https://storefront.chester.ac.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=24&products_id=709
