As part of our website redesign by Brandfire Ltd we are pleased to share the upgraded club logo. The original club logo was a simple depiction of the Crubon rock buoy - a symbol of the club’s long maritime heritage. Many club and committee members, past and present were either fishermen or ex-fishermen - and will have used the Crubon buoy over the years. Whilst there were no photos available of the original buoy, old club badges depicted a similar but arguably more realistic looking buoy, and research had turned up several designs that might have been in use by the Northern Lighthouse Board at the time. The perfectly straight lines of the original logo were replaced with a shape showing a sense of scale and perspective. Following the design of the club badges, some additional supports in the framework were added. The lantern itself was modelled on a typical calcium carbide light source from the start of the 20th century. Whether or not the design is accurate we’ll never know - but at the very least the design now looks as though it might actually work. Turning the buoy a few degrees gave a sense of movement - and waves were then added to try to add a further sense of environment. Using a celtic style pattern, these waves were then cropped to appear to lap around the buoy. Again, a little more research was needed - on one side a small amount of keel is exposed with all the movement. The finishing touches - a seagull and a porthole style surround - added the final maritime stamp, whilst the typeface - Thyssen - has been chosen to be more in keeping with a club which first opened its doors in 1906.
