The Guardian Angels Senior Citizen Club is proving a lucky bunch - as they has won the Bury Hospice Lottery twice in six months. The club is based in Elton and takes part in lunches, dancing and bingo, among other events, for senior citizens. They first won the top prize of £1,000 in Bury Hospice's Weekly Lottery in October last year and have now just won it again! “We used to do the National Lottery but we switched to Bury Hospice’s Lottery to help a local cause,” said Peggy Parker, who is the Bury Hospice agent for Guardian Angels SCC. “We get two numbers every week but it was a long time since we had won anything so I was surprised when I got a phone call to say we had won £1,000 in October. “We decided we were going to use it for a trip to Lytham in June for all the members so that’s all being sorted. “Then I got another phone call to say we had won again recently! I couldn’t believe it, it was a big surprise to win once never mind twice. “I have been an agent for Bury Hospice’s Lottery for over 16 years and we know it means a lot to our club members. “We never did it to win it really, we just know how lucky we are to have Bury Hospice on our doorstep.” Lottery Manager Lisa Sewell said: “The highlight of my week is ringing someone to tell them they have won £1,000. To tell someone twice is a double bonus!” To join Bury Hospice Lottery contact the lottery office on 0161 763 1893 - you could be the next winner!

Bury Hospice Lottery results - Friday 23rd March - http://www.buryhospice.org.uk/our-fundraising/lottery/
Four-year-old Emily has sold some of her dolls and raised £20 for Bury Hospice in memory of ‘Uncle Michael.’ Michael Kay died at Bury Hospice in December 2016 and it affected Emily, who had spent every Thursday with Michael and his wife Sheila. Emily’s mum Nikki is best friends with Michael’s daughter Jenna, and has been for more than 20 years, and they have both fundraised for Bury Hospice since Michael’s death and have a heart on the Bury Hospice wall after raising more than £1,000. Emily wants a heart of her own in memory of Michael and started it with the money from her doll sale. “Emily’s birthday is November and then it was Christmas and so we had a clear out of items,” said Nikki. “We took some to Emily’s nursery, Woodfields Day Nursery, and then gave some to a friend. The friend wanted to give us some money which we didn’t accept but she ended up passing on £20 to Sheila while Emily was with her. “Emily immediately said she wanted it to go to ‘Uncle Michael’ as she has been involved with our fundraising in the past and, while she doesn’t fully understand it, she has been to the hospice and seen the heart for Michael and said she wants one of her own. “We were so touched that this was her first thought, it’s such a kind thing to do.”
Rakem were fantastic last year in the Corporate Challenge turning £50 into £30,000 for Bury Hospice. Altogether the Corporate Challenge raised over £50,000 for Bury Hospice - a huge contribution towards our annual £2.2m running costs. Now we are on the hunt for businesses to take part in our five month 2018 fundraiser which starts in June. Rakem said: “Taking part in the Corporate Challenge was of the best decisions we made in 2017! Everyone from the Rakem team got involved and it was a great way to grow as a company, whilst allowing individuals to shine. "We will continue to support Bury Hospice as they care they provide is phenomenal. Good luck to all future challengers!” If any company would like to sign up - and see if they can beat Rakem's fantastic amount - email michelleking@buryhospice.org.uk for more information.
