Family run stud breeding and producing Pony Club/Event types.
We sell and lease stock surplus to our own requirements.
Most of our horses and ponies are 4/5/6 generations our breeding, we know them inside out.
Happy horses = Happy people = Happy Horses Why leasing works for me and my customers.
Biggest plus - I don't have to sell my ponies. So often I've sold ponies in the past just as they start to show great potential, they sometimes go on to have amazing careers and wonderful homes, they also sometimes end up in inexperienced homes that mess them up and leave me feeling helpless as I watch them being misunderstood, undervalued and unappreciated. Whilst their riders become disillusioned, nervous and lose confidence. I had come to dread the day the ponies mature and start looking ready to go out and find a job as I know how it's likely they will only be in their new home a year or two before the rider grows put of them and they are once again on the market and at risk of a tricky future. I have been lucky with many of our ponies, there is Morgan Oliver (reg AHS Cefn Gof Olivier) who went straight to a great home as a 4 yr old and proceeded to spend 2 or 3 years in good home after good home, proving his worth as a talented confidence giver, now in a wonderful permanent home as mothers's hack at a very fit age of 25.
His nephew Morgan Jeremiah, chestnut international superstar pony, went to a fab home at 4, went on to another great home and top national jumping pony status but then found himself misunderstood and struggling in the next to be found by the Harpur's and taken on to FEI fame as an event pony. These are just some of the success stories of Morrigan Stud stock.

Now that we only lease our ponies with the very occasional sale, my ponies reach the age of 5 with a year of mileage under their belts and I enjoy watching their potential unfold, knowing that pretty soon a good young rider will be taking them on and producing them to their fullest with me matching them to the right rider at every stage of their career. No more long term mismatches, more confident riders and ponies reaching their potential.

Our customers come to us for ponies that they know have been purpose bred, reared and produced as pony club all rounders with fabulous temperaments, personalities and plenty of talent. They know that our ponies have been started by experienced professionals, ridden by juniors, coached by experts and put through their paces in every walk of life by pony club members and families. If any of the ponies have issues, which is rare, they will be well documented and assessed, never putting the pony or rider at a disadvantage.
Each pony's history from birth to present day is well documented with the history of parents and grand parents included
We try to make sure there is a choice of 3, often if warned in advance (6months or so), a pony will be cherry picked and prepared for a child, we have up to ten 4 and 5 yr old ponies, mares and geldings being prepared each year. Some will be homebred, some will have been at Morrigan Stud since foals.
With a team of capable riders ranging from 7 to 12, 13 and 18 our ponies are ridden in company, alone, on roads, beaches, hillside, x country, in lessons, Unaffiliated shows, sometimes affiliated, rallies, hunting where necessary, the list goes on.

Super cute Gelert aka Gizmo has landed back from his stint on the Isle of Man looking fabulous and in fit, ready for action condition. He has had his last ride with Gracie over a grid of x poles and a 60cm jump, she’s been riding full x pole courses without assistance, she obviously thinks the world of him but yet again he’s done himself out of a job, she’s now moving up to the next step. Available on lease now, possibly with view to sell to an exceptional home. 14yrs old, full reg B, 12h max. £15/week

A year apart. Morrigan Lewena aka Wenny Morrigan Desoltaire (Solitaire KWPN/Dallas Bright Spark) x Morrigan Mirhaid (Morrigan Lucy Too/Kilmullen Fionn Connemara) 6 year old Wenny out on her first ride a year ago with Joe and yesterday we tacked her up and Karina had a little ride. She’s had nothing done with her in between. This is the temperament we breed for. 👌

Our driving motivation is to make sure more children grow up with the awesome memories of golden childhoods that we did with ponies. The prizes and awards, Rosettes and results are the icing on the cake and oh boy do we love to see the Morrigan’s our there doing well, all down the incredible hard work our clients put into their ponies and their riding. The bottom line has to be however, that the child and pony suit each other, that the pony fits in with family life. Only then can we be confident that child and family can create memories that will shine on through tough times and glad times to keep us strong. None of the ponies I nor my kids grew up with were patent safe or schoolmasters but they were genuine and fairly straightforward. I learnt that regular, sensible work always produces a reasonable pony, sometimes we can start with a fabulous pony character and find we have a golden super pony and add a good foundation, a few happy, confident kids, plenty of sunshine and adventures and there we have a great, confident, happy pony. Our ‘system’ here at Morrigan is to gather our crew of kids together, support each other, encourage, teach, explore, and go out to shows, training, beaches, mountains and anywhere accessible and encourage this fabulous bunch of youngsters to develop their skills and their ponies in every way they can. There’s very little spit and polish involved, Wendy tries her best but we are a wild and messy bunch focused on getting the mileage in on the ponies. The clients that take our ponies add the 1-1 training, they tick the advanced boxes, they add their individual touches to our foundation model and they show the world what lovely people the Morrigan stock are. In a nutshell, our gang at Morrigan Stud and our clients out there all around the Uk and Ireland are a TEAM. A golden team. They are all individually wonderful and without a doubt we would be nothing without them. These kids are our future, let’s send them out into this ever harder world equipped with memories and skills that will give them strength, confidence and resolve.

Very proud of this beautiful boy and his rider. Bernie and Matteo at their summer camp having a fabulous time. I want to thank Evelyn Lallo for keeping us posted on their progress from the beginning. They are a wonderful combination, Bernie looks fantastic and really is getting a chance to develop his full potential as a great horse and friend. Bernie is 2nd generation Morrigan, by Verdi KWPN and out of our Morrigan Charlemaine (Dallas Bright Spark/Rocketone TB). At home we have his daughter Midsummer Lady and his granddaughter Lola, both have his fabulous nature. With Lady in foal for next year to www.castellsportshorses.co.uk ‘s Jumanji it’ll be 12 months from now that she will make a start on her ridden career.
