We all need needles from time to time for mending and sewing on buttons and many of us use them for embroidery, dressmaking, quilting and many other crafts, sometimes with the help of a machine. There are special needles for all of these skills – and many more, for example, tapestry, upholstery and toy making. There are many different types and sizes of needles many of which were developed and manufactured in the Redditch and Studley area. Now we are fortunate to welcome Karen Parry to come along and tell us something about the history of needles and the variety that are available to us and how best to use them. Karen is coming to Avoncroft Arts Centre main hall on Tuesday, September 27th at 10.00 am ready to start her talk at 10.30 am. She will bring along with her a wide range of needles to show us and have available for purchase, including needles for specialist work and for sewing machines. We plan to finish at around 12.15. We welcome members of Avoncroft Arts Society and also friends and family and anyone in the area interested in sewing and learning about needles, their history and how to use them. The cost is £2.00 per person to include light refreshments. You may pay on the day but we would appreciate it if you could email or telephone the office FAO Sue Chinner to let us know you are coming and the numbers if you are bringing a group. If there are special needles you particularly would like to see and purchase then please also let us know. We look forward to seeing you!
