A Wessex Christmas begins with the oldest song surviving from the 13th Century, sung in Middle English, and moves to more recent times via stories and songs both sacred and secular, mostly from the Somerset area interrupted by a mummers play from West Harptree, just outside Bristol. The Howlers perform for the love of singing and playing, and our passion for the music and tunes of the English folk tradition. We have supported several charities, our cd sales going to cancer charities, and our concerts to various charities. Last year the Hotwells Howlers performed Stoney Broke in No-Man’s Land in the church and the proceeds went to the British Red Cross in recognition of their work in the Great War and continuing around the world today. This year (as last year) the Hotwells Howlers are supporting Crisis at Christmas, and all profits from the concert will be donated to this cause. Tickets £5 on the door
