Week 2 on the roof - all prep. done for the next week of sheeting :)
Been a bit slow on here as most job are yucky and more yuck but Good News - we have planning permission - discussion over roof material to follow but at least things are moving forward - never know may get a home yet :)
Hi friends - well this is as far as I can go with the barn build till lambing time when the caravan will be evicted by the sheep :) Pleased I don't have to lift anything heavy for a while and a big thank you to family, friends and neighbours that have helped me out along the last couple of months - tonight I live in a caravan in a barn and tomorrow I will live in a caravan in a barn with the goats - madness has set in :)
Well, I know how Allen felt for the last 20 odd years doing joinery - I can never get enough done in a day!! My shoulders hurt from hammering and I'm done in - another day and no pics as the last nail went in as the light was fading (again) it's going to be a close call between me finishing the new shed and the first goat kidding - please Glen Clova cross your legs - hope all my palls goats are doing well and anyone with a day off over the weekend ............ :)
Roof trusses up thanks to a lovely neighbour with a tractor - at 9" x 2" x 6.8m they were very, very heavy - all strapped and nailed down before the forecasted wintery weather - result
So as usual - running out of time - the race is on to get the new shed up before kidding - cross your legs girls I still have a week or so's work to do - but it's all working out with the big jigsaw and the piles in the drive are getting smaller :)
For the pièce de résistance - 85m2 of concrete down last Wednesday just before the cold weather - that was so lucky. Not 100% level but certainly as good as the team could do - thanks to Monty, Neil and Kate's squad for all your help - this will nicely go off before the shed arrives at the end of the month (finger's crossed)
New front gates hung, now Zip can play safely off his line :)
Also now and again I find a frog/toad in the building (could be a tad damp :) ) - today two, a wee one about an inch and his bigger friend a couple of inches - had to relocate them to a safe area from "the extractor demolition site"
Clare 1 - Extractor Fan 0 :)
Today's challenge - slow down water ingress into the building when neither the roof trusses or the 1st floor, floor joists reach the wall head and the sarking is non existent? Utilise some of the fibreglass sheeting like large slates – not bonny but it will do the job for the moment – that followed onto remove the large gas boiler vent and brush a lot of c**p of the roof, haling that is falling off the chimney and clear the valley – at least the water stands a chance of running off the roof now. Next challenge – extractor fan removal and we’re talking industrial size followed by the chimney stack – that should be fun :)
