facebook.comToday i fitted and welded the drivers side sill , after a bit of a battle it now fits. The wings and the door have been fitted with all the catches and locks so I know when it’s painted everything will fit nicely . These are the things that take the most time to do,but the end results speak for themselves .
Body back on and started fitting the body panels ! Carbs back from Bently’s blasting and they look amazing Now to make all the panels fit !
Here are the pictures of the body panel repairs on the MGA roadster. I have made new lower rear quarter sections and various top rail repair pieces, I have left as much of the original panels as possible. The doors were both very badly damaged , they had been opened up to far and damaged the a posts as well as the inner door frames. They had then just been filled over without straightening any of the damage ! I removed half an inch of filler over most of the door. They were hammered flat and the aluminium stretched very badly, I thought I may have to reskin the doors but managed to repair them.
So I’m nearing the end of the bodywork. The main body has been repaired and filled and has been bolted back on the chassis ready for the outer sills and body panels to be fitted. The bonnet and boot were very badly dented and did not fit into the body very nicely, so I panelbeated them out as near as possible making sure they fit nicely, they are made of aluminium as are the doors. The body panels were also worse than I first thought. I ended up welding in a lot of new sections into the four wings. So next week the panels will be fitted and lined up then prepped for primer. Here are the pictures of the body.
The rolling chassis !!
Very busy couple of weeks but the body is ready to go onto the chassis so I can align all the body panels and weld the sills on. I have also finished the disc conversion and shock upgrades on the front of the chassis , so it’s now on its wheels ready for the body. I will remove the body again once the sills are welded in the correct place and I know all the body panels fit nicely.
Started work on the passenger sill on the MGA. Started by bracing the side before cutting out all the rotten bits. I will be replacing the outer sill when the body is bolted back on the chassis so I can line up all the outer panels ( they were never good when they were made ) I have made new inner sill panels and all the inner reinforcements , I will weld all the inner panels in place ready for the outer sill to be fitted. Like everything it’s a bit worse than it looked but it will be as good as new when I’m finished !!
Now started work on the MGA body ! Started with the terrible repair on the nose , it had been hit quite hard and bent all the inner frame, but rather than repair it properly it had been filled over leaving all the split bodywork underneath and the frame still bent. The bonnet was then flattened on the front and filled to match the bent front ( they even bent the front grill so it would fit in the hole !! Nice !! So I jacked the front back up , straitened the frame, cut out the bad steel and straightened the bonnet. Happy with the result..
So after having the wiper motor blasted I stripped it down to change the park switch wire ! It was given a good cleanup inside and out , then a new wire was fitted and the body painted ! Just hope it still works . Then I put the heater box back together after it was blasted and powder coated by bentleys blasting https://www.facebook.com/vapourblastingsandblasting/ The heater matrix was cleaned out and given the all clear
So how many seat covers can you get on one seat !! Three it would appear.
So just got all the front suspension parts and the seat bases from Bentleys Blasting !! They have been blasted and powder coated and I have to say they look amazing. I have fitted all the parts and included a koni shock absorber conversion and a disc brake upgrade with braided hoses I have also rebuilt the king pins. Waiting for the new hubs and bearings to arrive to take the new chrome wire wheels
Hi all ! Little update on the MGA roadster restoration! Chassis is basically done apart from the front suspension just waiting for it to come back from powder coating . It’s having koni shocks and disc conversion . All the floor boards have been painted , drilled and fitted with rubber gaskets to try and keep the water out and almost every nut bolt and washer has been replaced with new. I have run all the pipe work and loom to the back of the car ready to be connected to the front when the body is refited . Once the chassis is on its wheels it will be wrapped up and have the body refitted so I can align all the body panels and fit new sills etc !
