"Promoting the laws of the beautiful game of football." North Gwent Referees Association - Affiliated to the Referees' Association of Wales re-established in 2010.

North Gwent Referee's meet monthly at Blackwood Cricket Club. The society area covers the whole of the Blaenau Gwent and parts of Carephilly basically the northern part of the old Gwent area.

Meetings are held at the club on the 2nd Monday of the month and start at 7pm. All referees are welcome whether active or non active. We also encourage others to come and see how our meetings are held, what training we undertake and to assist others in the understanding of the laws of the game.

Christopher Barnett 1974-2017 We have been advised by Abertillery Excelsiors FC of the passing of player Christopher Barnett. Christopher collapsed while playing for the club on Saturday and passed away in hospital. The club are totally devastated at the loss of this popular player and did all they could at the game on Saturday to save him. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family of Christopher at this sad time. We have been requested as match officals to observe a minutes silence at games this weekend as a mark of respect for Christopher and the family he has left behind. RIP Christopher.

Great Week and weekend for the NGRA members. Firstly big congratulations to Robert Thomas (aka badger ) for a year on year promotion. Massive congratulations to steve williams who picks up gwent county fa senior referee of the year for the second season runing proving how consistently good he is. Well done also too those who passed thier fittness test this weekend in the gwent fa and development group these being robertThomas andrew wilkins ben schofeild. LaSt but not least a well done to gavin townsend who passed welsh premier and 2 referee fitness tests. Great weekend for ngra from grassroots to the top flight in welsh football

Tonight sees the second of the North Gwent District League Finals take place at Tredegar Sports Centre which sees Verteran Referee Tudor Lewis Supported by his 2 Assistants Scott Brown & Ben Skuse supported by experinced 4th offical Gavin Townsend. We wish the third team the best of luck along with the two teams Ebbw Vale Town & The Oak

Guest Speaker & Practical Training Night. The NGRA welcomes you to a night of practical training follwed by refreshements and review of techniques for Assitant Referees. The training night which willl take place in Tredegar Sports Centre on the 17th Aprill from 6pm till 9pm with shower facilities on site for after the practical session. Guest speaker and also taking the practicle session is Ian Bird FIFA Assistant Referee. Ian began refereeing in 2006 at the Port Talbot League and progressed 'the old fashioned way' through the South Wales Amateur League and Welsh League. He joined the Welsh Premier League assistant referee list in 2012 and has since earned a contract as a Specialist Assistant Referee which means he specifically performs the role of linesman in high level matches. In 2015 he graduated from the UEFA Centre Of Refereeing Excellence (CORE) programme which led to the pinnacle of his profession - being included on the FIFA Assistant Referee list in 2016. His role has seen him officiate in 9 countries to date including competitions such as the UEFA Europa League and UEFA European U17 Championship. Its going to be great night for all referees at all levels and who better to learn off than a high class guest speaker and Fifa assiatant referee. Please make an extra effort to attend and we have an open invite to referees across the area who are welcome to attend.

NGRA Members Flying Flag On National Cups. North Gwent Referees Association training and support is paying off with yet again as 2 members get appointed to the FAW Womens Welsh Cup Semi Final. The game which will be played in mid Wales at Newtown FC this Sunday the 12th of March; and will see Llandudno Ladies vs Swansea City ladies; both who compete in the Womens Welsh Premier League. The match officals team which is led by Referee Gavin Townsend (NGRA member) supported by Andrew Wilkins (NGRA member) & Josh Howells (MONRA Member) supported by 4th offical John Foster. We are delighted for our members on this great appointment and wish the who team the best of luck this coming Sunday.
