new cattle on Mill Meadows today. 10 yearling heifers clustering around the new boardwalks. they seemed to have already become quite calm. I was able to walk slowly through them and just got curious looks. they will stay on the SSSI for a week or two then be removed to the west and north west of the Reserve to allow the wildflowers to flourish.

over the unusually warm weekend a Peacock butterfly flittered by and I found some Long-tailed Tits collecting nest material. Lots of song from Song Thrush, Great Tit, Robin, Dunnock and even the occassional Wren, Blackbird and Treecreeper joining in. Counted at least 30 frogs in the pond by The Scout Hall.

last Saturday we fitted the Safetread on the two completed board walks around Oakfield. The last boardwalk was completed by Pearl on Monday. We will fit Safetread on that probably in the New Year, as well as tidy up around the ends of the boards by supporting some of the soil - might consider shingle. The weather conditions were less than ideal and there was more churning up than we wanted and we'll have to monitor how it recovers.

the other eight cattle were taken away to their winter quarters this morning. look forward to some coming back next Spring. 4 were taken up to Suffolk and another 4 are more local - in fact I took a picture of some of them this week outside their barn.
