Persona was a huge success at Brighton Fringe this week. On 16/17 May, 9 students who are part of Bexelei Theatre Company took to the stage at The Warren: TheatreBox @ Brighton Fringe. The students were fantastic and feedback has been very positive. The playwright Jon Barton attended both nights to see his play in action and was very pleased with what the students had created. We’re looking forward to the next performance of Persona at our very own Izzard Theatre on 29th June @ 1pm. An unsettling new play by Jon Barton contrasts online presence with real time persona. Bexelei are a new theatre company made up of young actors aged 16-19. They have worked on this Arts Council England funded production with established professional playwright Jon Barton. PERSONA sheds light on the harsh and sometimes unjustified online response to the death of a high profile local MP. His mourning daughters struggle to manage the building aggression displayed through social media. In a world where online chat is ubiquitous, Jon Barton’s new play blurs both sides of the line. Performances 16th and 17th May @ 7pm - The Warren: Theatre Box.
Our students thoroughly enjoyed a body percussion and samba workshop with Ollie Tunmer from @beatgoesonuk. Ollie, who has worked previously with Stomp and Cbeebies, treated our students to a full morning workshop inspired by the Mambo from West Side Story culminating in a performance for students and staff across the college. Ollie then repeated the workshop for 30 children from local primary schools in the afternoon and the day ended with a performance in our very own Izzard Theatre for their family and friends. #bbc10pieces @eastsussexmusic @artscouncilengland
