Barnes Oak is a family run smallholding in Battle East Sussex. Our aim is to raise/grow good quality produce and to be as self sufficient as possible. Barnes Oak is a family run smallholding set in about 12 acres in Battle East Sussex. Our aim is to rear good quality meat with high standards of animal welfare,organically grow fresh fruit and vegetables and be as self sufficient as we possibly can.
We currently have rare breed pigs, chickens,ducks,geese, bees and soon we will be acquiring rare breed sheep too.
Our free range pigs are oxford sandy blacks crossed with Gloucester old spots.They live in the woods to protect there skins from the sun and have a very friendly nature.
We rescued 40 free range organic chickens recently from going to slaughter at only 72 weeks old and 8 ducks from the same rescue centre which have all settled in nicely in their new home and laying rather well!
Our rare breed sheep are Soay sheep and originate from the Island of Soay. They are a hardy breed and produce very lean meat.
This year we planted a variety of 10 apple trees and they are establishing well so in the next 2 years we shall have an organic crop and hopefully some very tasty apples.
From time to time we will have excess produce for sale and hope to use this page as a tool to provide quality produce to those who would be interested.

Here are our beautiful free range Bronze Turkeys. They roam on ground free from chemicals and feed on grains milled less than 5 miles away. We keep our birds in small numbers and raise them to almost organic standards. The feedback we received last year was outstanding and we believe this is due to the space living outside, free to roam, graze on good pasture and little human interference. Orders for Christmas are being taken. Small Turkey £45-£55 6-8 people Medium Turkey £55-£65 8-10 people Large Turkey £65-£80 10 + A £20 deposit is taken at time of ordering due to the small no. of birds. I have a suspicious feeling that my chest freezer with all our lovely free range pork in is about to die/died. So whilst all our Pork is frozen and before it all melts and spoils the meat would anyone like any of the following: Sausages (6 in a pack) 4 packs for £10: Sage and onion Leek Creole or chilli Sausage meat with the above flavourings or plain £2.50 a pack Pork joints at £6:50 a kilo
