Yesterday Desta Omar our Virgo People Business Development Manager, attended the “Learning from the Best” conference at Chapter Arts, hosted by the Welsh Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic Public Sector Network, as part of Black History Month celebrations taking place across wales. A programme of engaging and informative topics was delivered by a range of speakers. The Right Honourable Carwyn Jones AM, spoke passionately about creating an inclusive Wales and Zsanett Shashaty gave an update on the success of the Welsh Government project aimed at increasing BAME participation in Apprenticeship programmes. Delegates heard how the challenges of Brexit in regard to race relations remains a real but surmountable threat. June Milligan, Equality Human Rights Commissioner, encouraged all to counter negative and ‘fake news’ news stories with stories of justice and injustice being addressed. The day was rounded off with an inspiring speech from the charismatic Rob Neil, Chair of the Civil Service Race Forum (seen here with Desta). With over 30 years experience in the Civil Service Rob had some interesting stories and past experiences to share which have helped define his vison and commitment to the advancement of equality. Many thanks to Sanjiv Vedi, his team and the sponsors for organising a great event. #blackhistorymonth #bhm #bhmwales
