What a crazy a night! 2 missed calls on Monday evening followed by a text simply saying “Joby this may be the call you wanted! Give me a call please...” followed by a short conversation along the lines of “are you in?” “Yeah”. Joe Long thank you for the opportunity to compete it such a prestigious event, would love to be apart of it again next year! Accepting the spot on 5 days notice, nothing’s going to change and there’s nothing more to do. This week was about staying injury free and sticking to what I’ve been working. The score line didn’t reflect how I felt about my performance after round 1. It was cagey, took too long to get going and not clean enough but some good points going in. Started well in round 2 keeping him busy and scoring first only to be caught with a head kick and end up chasing the rest of the fight. Missed opportunities and mistakes that could’ve been easy points for the taking. As always it highlights where work is required and directs training as we prepare for what comes next. Should’ve held that lead and it was certainly my fight to give away. More disappointed to miss out on a pool final against Musa Edwards. Congratulations to him, great performances throughout the night and composed fights against big names. Strong performance throughout by Jordan Thomas to take the prize on the night. Happy to jump in at late notice and give a reasonable account of myself but I know there’s more than 2 rounds in me. We’ll be back again next year. A good opportunity to review some footage and commentary to plan. Another positive, world ranking has been updated today and it has risen from 416 to 238 in the world 🌍 Still need to keep climbing but the results from Austria certainly helped to bump me up a few places.

As some of you will already be aware. I am competing this weekend at the 10K clash. 32 athletes from all around the world 🌍 on one show. This is such a rare event for karate 🥋It was amazing to see it return last year following a 10 year break from the annual event. Former winners include a number of former world and European champions. The event returned in 2017 and is running once again this weekend! Due to an injury Alton Brown has had to pull out of the event and I have accepted his place in group 2. The event will be streamed live and tickets are still available for the night if you wanted to come along to watch some top athletes competing. It’s amazing to be part of such a prestigious event and as in previous years, great to see karate receiving the publicity it deserves. As karate enters the Olympics for 2020 it will hopefully become more of a spectator sport. There are few events like it so get involved! #karate #10k #karateclash #athlete #sport #kumite #wkf #ekf #seriesa #k1

NATIONAL SQUAD TRAINING today at Leicester arena. 3 sessions today. Session 1️⃣ Mostly sparring, 1-4-1s and working single techniques, doubles and 2 scores (double followed by single) Session 2️⃣ Long range techniques. Single techniques but firing from range and reaching on each. Then added a stutter to close greater distance. Followed by allowing opponent to ride the technique back as they come and fire something back. Focus was on repetition and nailing the basics. It takes more than 5 minutes on a technique to improve and there’s certainly still LOADS of work to be done! Session 3️⃣ A couple of fight offs, always good to get some mat time in with real referees and the pressure of a competition! A few clips from my final fight today. Some good rounds and no losses today 😃 #kumite #karate #fight #kata #ushiro #ura #ippon #athlete #sports #fighting #seriesa #boxing #mma

Looking over photos from Austria 🇦🇹 Sometimes it gets a little stressful and my warm ups end up looking like this! More beneficial to lie on the floor and relax! #karate #competition #seriesa #wkf #ekf #k1 #kumite #fighting #fight

Unable to get to training in Birmingham today due to a crash on the M40 and 50 minute delays. Turned around, back to the gym and spent the session working on the following: 1️⃣ triggering off a pull, break or movement away 2️⃣as above with opponent throwing kizami/Tobi whenever they like 3️⃣reacting to targets attacking only 4️⃣reacting to targets plus counter techniques, back and break 5️⃣as above with triggers added in addition to all of this 6️⃣ Double Jodan and Long range on front hand techniques Round after round on each. A solid hour and a half session! Missed out on training but still got some good and necessary work done @jxcob_beasleyx #kumite #kata #wkf #ekf #kihon #karate #fight #fighting #fighter #athlete #sport #sports #boxing #mma #k1 #seriesa #training
