A really busy Saturday morning in the shop turned into a whole day stint until 5.30pm Customer Ricky De Rosa from Attleborough came in for a stove and found poor Colin wrestling with wall paper. This is what is left of the back lining panel from a cast iron stove. That great big hole in the centre is where the metal has totally broken down and disintegrated. Check your stove regularly as part of general maintenance and replace any worn out parts. Many people leave replacing parts (like this) much too late which results in undue stress to the stove body. As most cast iron parts are also imported and we have to guess stock level requirements for spares, some things we also run out of ! To get the best from your stove never burn wood and coal together - even if it's deemed a multi fuel stove. Wood should burn from the top down and solid fuel from the bottom up.
