Mothering Sunday is celebrated on the fourth Sunday of Lent. During the 16th century, people returned to their mother church. This was either the church where you baptised or the local parish church. Over time, Mothering Sunday became the day on which live in domestic servants were given a day off in order to go home & visit their families. There is a story about a brother & sister, Simon & Nell were in the kitchen making a cake to take home to their mother. An argument arose about whether the marzipan should go in the middle or on top of the cake. They both had their way & the Simnel Cake is the result! There will be a service for Mothering Sunday at St Columba’s at 11:00 am on 26 March. All are welcome to join us at our service.
The next Men’s Breakfast at Dalgety Parish Church will be held on Saturday, 18 March starting at 9:30am. The speaker will be Paul Mitchell, who is BBC Scotland’s principal television football commentator. He is also an elder at Wardie Parish Church.
