We are an NGO whose primary goal is to help the most needy refugees entering Greece. We provide food, hygiene and education for thousands every month. English:
Over the past few years, so many people had to flee their countries across the Middle East ravaged by war and terror. Many of them are stranded in Greece, living often in appalling conditions or on the streets. I am talking about those who didn’t have the luck to end up in a camp managed by the Red Cross, Medecins Sans Frontiere, UN or the Greek Military. There are at this moment tens of thousands of families living in empty school buildings, former factories, and other derelict places. These people need help with all of the basic essentials we take for granted in our everyday life. Hygiene, clothes, shoes, toiletries, food, clean drinking water and toys – the list goes on. Many of the refugees in these camps are the most vulnerable members of society: children, old people, and people with disabilities.

We have been in Greece several times in the past months to provide direct help. We have set up a donation account to collect funds to enable the volunteers to help the most needy in Greece. We have been doing this with our own money several times and we were able to have a direct and immediate impact. With your help we will be able to do more. We will, of course, report in detail about what we will be doing with your donations. Any help is welcome, from clothes donations to translations or logistics. Thank you for you assistance it is much appreciated.

Deutsch:

This week our friends at Khora, the community centre where we have been supporting the education space, celebrated Eid Fitar. This is to mark the end of Ramandan, a month of fasting in sunlight hours. It is the largest celebration in the Islamic calendar and a time for family and friends to come together to share food and festivities. In this context, many are separated from those they love and what should a joyous time can be also very difficult. We were happy to be able support this celebration by donating meat and sweets to give people a taste of home. Photos by Nuno Cassola Marques

In 2016 alone, 1000 babies were born to refugees in camps. Though some families receive financial support, it does not always cover essentials such as nappies and baby milk. Here we are buying some of these necessary items. Thank you for continuing to support our vital work in Greece-and Eid mubarak to all those celebrating today!

Food supplies are still not abundant at the unofficial camps in Athens, so we have bought and arranged for breakfast to supply one of the camps for a month. If you are sending relief packages to Greece then please make sure they contain basic food products and baby milk.

What a difference 12 hours can make - the before and after shots from the teams sweat and toil last week. Great to see the positive energy and community spirit at the camps. We have provided more cleaning products to enable the refugees to continue the hard work.

The team have been hard at work deep cleaning two of the unofficial refugee camps. We hired industrial machinery to remove the layers of dirt that have built up over the past year. The residents gave a helping hand mopping, scrubbing, tidying and fixing the communal areas. Debbie and Bernard also joined us for the day to ensure it was all hands on deck. It was wonderful to see people of so many different nationalities all working hard to make a better life for others. The results have been fantastic with the dwellings looking significantly cleaner and more hygienic places to live. Please reshare
