Lars Mytting wrote a book a few years ago called Norwegian wood. The art of chopping: stacking and drying wood the Scandinavian way. I listened to him being interviewed on the radio. He describes the smell of wood and the peace of stacking wood. "You can tell a lot about a person by the way they stack their wood" he said. I tried it. We had tonnes of wood on one of the balconies. It formed a huge pile outside the garage door. The next morning, I got up at the crack of dawn and stared at the huge pile of wood. I started my first pile. I had finished an hour or so later. And I can honestly say that stacking wood is really therapeutic. During my effort, it even started to snow, just a fine snow. But it was snowing none the less. Later, I read a bit of Lars Mytting's book on the internet. There was this poem in it, which was lovely: The scent of fresh wood is among the last things you will forget when the veil falls. The scent of fresh white wood in the spring sap time as though life itself walked by you, with dew in its hair." (Hans Børli) I like wood. — at Chalet "twentysix" Nendaz.
