Description

The Centre is as a regional hub for cooperation and synergies, promotes research, pools and shares knowledge, and assists agencies in incorporating gender in their initiatives. All this, through its Knowledge Centre and Gender Programme. Women form the very backbone of rural communities in the Himalayas. Norlha & other international agencies recognise them as key actors in achieving sustainable development.

With these in mind, Norlha created the Centre for Women in the Himalayas to improve the lives of women & girls in the most isolated regions. The Centre is open to all organisations active in development in the Himalayan area who wish to collaborate on gender-related issues.

#LeaveNoOneBehind
In the rural Himalayas women are constantly confronted by gender-based discrimination. Raised in an essentially patriarchal society, women face a greater number of hurdles than men & find themselves estranged from public & economic life.
With men often forced to leave home to find paid employment, the women shoulder the burden. They may work up to 16 hours daily carrying out hard manual work as well as caring for the family & running the household.
