NO EXCUSES TO YOGA!!!!⁣⠀ Nothing proves more commitment than when a student on crutches makes it to the last lunchtime class in the history of the studio. ⁣⠀ Not to frantically use up her classes, but to enjoy the incredible vibe in the sunlit studio and showing respect to what was built in the past 17 years and support.⁣⠀ ⁣⠀ This is what we expect from our dear yoga students. ⁣⠀ This is what makes the INNERCITYOGA spirit.⁣⠀ ⁣⠀ At this point we cannot hear about any lame excuses⁣⠀ ⁣⠀ #innercityoga #geneve #geneva #noexcuses #yogaeveryday #lastdays #thisistheend #neversurrender #neverstronger

We are currently going through one of our most painful experiences and it is with our deepest regrets and great sadness that we are writing these lines.⁣ ⁣ In short, effective 1 April 2019 we have to shut down operations at our beloved yoga studio. ⁣ ⁣ Since the first day, the new owner of the building taking over and their property management treating us as a commodity and showing abusive behaviour, there was no common ground to be found. After nearly three years of constant and costly battle, it was impossible to get the lease renewed.⁣ ⁣ We will miss our beautiful studio and our fabulous yoga community.⁣ ⁣ Our close friend and mentor Bryan Kest compares this to loosing a close family member.⁣ ⁣ We will miss stepping into the airy sunlit space.⁣ Sunsets on the outdoor deck on long summery days.⁣ The smell of lavender rubbed between the fingers during savasana. ⁣ ⁣ Sharing laughs with students joining us from all over the world. Former students raving about their experience at INNERCITYOGA that they cannot find whererever they moved.⁣ ⁣ Spending all our “vacation” time studying with master teachers to provide the very best teaching to help all our students progress. Seeing students taking our advice and evolve in their practice.⁣ ⁣ We evolved with the studio, spending thousands of hours on the mat. The practice changed us, being able to deal with almost every obstacle thrown at us. Yoga really works, keep on practicing!⁣ ⁣ It all started with the first class on Sunday 1 December 2002.⁣ And on Sunday 31 March, Ioana will close this chapter of bringing quality yoga to Geneva with the last class at INNERCITYOGA.⁣ ⁣ Until then you may attend classes with your favorite teachers with the regular schedule.⁣ ⁣ We invite you to check out our website to use class cards beyond of 1 April.⁣ ⁣ Namaste.

15 - 17 March Workshop at INNERCITYOGA “Trauma & Your Body, an Embodied Perspective for Yogis” with Steve Haines https://www.innercityoga.com/en/steve-haines-masterclass-yoga-and-trauma - Understanding the underlying physiology of the trauma - key signs of overwhelm. - Understanding the importance of dissociation. It is an underlying theme in nearly all chronic health problems. - Knowing the early signs of distress and how to help create safety through embodiment. - Supporting embodied awareness in ourselves and our yoga students. - Exploring simple ways of using touch in a yoga class to support presence. If your physiology is stuck you are stuck. In trauma the old parts of the brain get stuck in defense strategies. Yoga can be a great self regulating tool that can support resetting of reflexes and habits in the central nervous system. Overactive primitive reflexes can make us tight, contracted, prepared for ‘fight-or-flight’ or they can ‘freeze’ the body and make us dissociate. It is incredibly important to appreciate dissociative responses when working with clients. Issues around feeling safe and grounded in the body underpin many chronic health conditions. Learning to feel. to move and connect to the body are a very powerful 'bottom-up' tools to promote safety and help someone switch off life or death neurophysiology. Many painful musculoskeletal conditions, visceral problems and states of anxiety and depression improve as people reconnect to the body. Steve Haines has been working as a bodyworker for over 20 years. He is the author of the award winning 'Anxiety Is Really Strange', part of a series of short graphic books that also includes 'Pain Is Really Strange' and 'Trauma Is Really Strange'. Understanding the science of pain and trauma has transformed his approach to healing. He has studied Yoga, Shiatsu, Craniosacral Therapy, and Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE). Steve is a UK registered Chiropractor and teaches all over the world. His treatments now use education, embodied awareness, and light touch to help people move more freely and be more present. Steve lives and works between London and Geneva. Trauma and the Body - an embodied perspective for yoga teachers. Understanding the underlying physiology of the trauma - key signs of overwhelm.
