Developing innovative and impactful solutions using mobile technology ““In 1982, there were 4.6 billion people in the world, and not a single mobile-phone subscriber. Today, there are seven billion people in the world — and six billion mobile cellular-phone subscriptions.”   MIT Technology Review

In a short span of time mobile phones have transformed our lives and the way we do things.  We now use phones to check our emails, navigate across cities, take photos, watch movies and share information.

But this is still just the beginning...

We’re only starting to see what is really possible when everyone has a powerful computing device in their pocket which is Internet connected and has an array of interesting sensors such as camera, GPS, accelerometer, NFC, etc.  Entire industries get transformed.

New business services such as mobile payments enable people to make financial transactions on the go.  Health sensors monitor physical conditions and provide early warning when something needs attention.  Children learn in engaging new ways and have access to any course at any time from anywhere.  Farmers track every growing activity in their fields so crops are grown more effectively and consumers have complete traceability from seed to plate.

This current decade is all about empowering the individual through networked technology.  Its an exciting new world that we are all a part of and are helping to shape.

3S Mobile is at the forefront of the enterprise revolution as we help clients to re-imagine and realize impactful new solutions.

Many teams are switching to chat as a faster, easier and more natural way to collaborate. We built SECURE.CHAT as a business collaboration tool that also gives people back control over their communication. Innovation and great execution are required more than ever as the pace of change quickens and competition increases. Traditional barriers to entry are disappearing as newcomers utilise cloud technologies, data-sharing, agile business models and new forms of collaboration that can quickly displace entrenched incumbents. The near future will also see an acceleration in business productivity and capability as technologies such as the IoT (Internet of Things), mobile payments and advances in artificial intelligence fundamentally change the game as we know it. The number of fronts that are simultaneously changing and the sheer speed with which it is occurring can be overwhelming and disorienting to say the least. Its not easy but rather than trying to hold onto what we know, we're entering a time where we need to genuinely embrace change and rethink everything. There is a lot of promise in a future that can be built with smart technology, seamless experiences and the frictionless flow of data/goods/commerce. However, care and wisdom is required as many ideas and technologies can also be used against us and push people to the fringes. Wherever possible we need to build a future that places people firmly in the centre and empowers them. Now is the time to design the kind of future we want. To work with like-minded partners who embrace both the potential and the responsibility. Each of us plays our own small role in helping to shape what comes next and hopefully we do it well. http://www.slideshare.net/estoday/3s-mobile-innovation-on-tap

The Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture together with 3S Mobile have created a cutting-edge platform called Farmforce, that helps smallholder farmers gain access to formal markets. Farmforce is a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform that increases transparency, simplifies compliance with food safety standards and enables full traceability. The solution comprises of a multi-language mobile app, web app and cloud-based servers designed for scalability. The mobile app works offline and integrates with a wireless printer for printing receipts, an external laser scanner for improved barcode scanning and a Bluetooth weight scale for fraud prevention. Farmforce is used for a wide range of business functions including the management of growing protocols, farmer training, yield forecasts, micro-loans, warehouse inventories, field surveys, etc. The platform is modular and able to support many types of customers with varying needs. An earlier video about the Kilimo Salama project we developed for the Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture. The solution involves a mobile app used by shop keepers to register weather insurance for farmers in Kenya. When a farmer purchases insurance using the system the policy is linked to the farms nearest weather station. The rainfall is then remotely monitored and if there is insufficient rain during the growing season then an insurance payout is generated and paid directly to the mobile phone of the farmer using M-Pesa. The full insurance life-cycle for the farmer from registration to payout is conducted with minimal paper work and zero claims forms. The mobile solution greatly simplifies the process of insurance registration, monitoring and payout. The resulting reduction in transaction costs make it possible to provide micro-insurance services to smallholder farmers who were previously excluded due to traditionally high admin costs. The solution shows how mobile technology can be used to redefine business models and serve a wider group of people than previously thought possible. Kilimo Salama went on to win the Financial Times award for Technology in Sustainable Finance and has since become the largest micro-insurance program in Africa running under the name of ACRE Africa. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfc3pWCjsYo
