Begnins is a municipality in the district of Nyon in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.HistoryBegnins was first mentioned in 1145 as Begnins.GeographyBegnins has an area, of 4.8km2. Of this area, 3.29km2 or 68.8% is used for agricultural purposes, while 0.82km2 or 17.2% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 0.67km2 or 14.0% is settled (buildings or roads) and 0.01km2 or 0.2% is unproductive land.Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 9.4% and transportation infrastructure made up 3.8%. Out of the forested land, 15.7% of the total land area is heavily forested and 1.5% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees. Of the agricultural land, 38.9% is used for growing crops and 6.9% is pastures, while 23.0% is used for orchards or vine crops.The municipality was part of the Nyon District until it was dissolved on 31 August 2006, and Begnins became part of the new district of Nyon.The municipality is located west of the wine-growing region of a Côte.
