Der ungewöhnliche Name wird vom griechischen Wort Ooid hergeleitet, eiförmige erbsengrossen Mineralkörper, die am Meeresgrund entstehen und als besondere Trouvaillen gelten. Die schlicht gehaltene Inneneinrichtung aus weissem Beton und Aluminium dieser Basler Schatzkammer erlaubt eine ideale Präsentation der handverlesenen Produkte.
