Breathe this in. We live in a world where we think we HAVE to know everything... but also think we do know everything. A bit of a head trip. I truly believe that ALL the answers are within us. Nevertheless, it takes sincere self-study to cultivate a mind that operates beyond our self-identified ego and mechanisms of protection. For this reason we do need teachers, for we all have blind spots. Adopting a beginner's mind is one of the most profound and liberating things we can do to truly grow and find peace. So, when you find yourself saying (or thinking) "I know". Take a breath and let go of safety of what you think you know and allow your mind to open to new possibilities. According to Ayurveda, Winter is a season is characterized by the earthy qualities of cold, dense and stable in both our bodies and in nature. We can all relate to the winter default of cozying up on the couch with a cup of tea rather than get out and move our body. However, if we don't bring the quality of warmth, appropriate movement and light into our body we can see imbalances arise at this time of year: depression, weight-gain, mucous build up and achy joints, to name a few. 95% of diseases are caused by or worsened by stress. Why? Because the mind and body are directly connected. However mind-body medicine is largely overlooked by the majority of physicians who dismiss symptoms as psychosomatic or simply attempt to manage symptoms with prescription medicine (vs the cause). This is not acceptable. It undermines our personal power and fundamental understanding that we are responsible for our health and wellbeing. By adopting health-giving practices and routines we are able to change our brain chemistry and positively influence they way we think and significantly mitigate the influence of stress on all levels of being. Our body is a fantastic organism that is always seeking to return to balance (stasis). Investigate and be encouraged that by taking your health into your own hands you are courageously stepping in the direction of true health, vitality and joy at any age.
