Hallundavägen 30 Norsborg, Sweden 145 83 Cullberg Ballet has performed all over the world and is an important element in the international presentation of Swedish culture. The company also engages in national outreach through its tours within Sweden. The company collaborates with a variety of national and international choreographers and performing artists who create works for large as well as small stages. Cullberg Ballet’s activities encompass projects and productions including site specific appearances and collaboration with dance training programs. Gabriel Smeets is the company's artistic director.
Cullberg Ballet was founded by Birgit Cullberg in 1967 under the auspices of Riksteatern. The company currently has 16-18 dancers from nearly as many countries. Since its inception, the stage personalities and technical strength of its dancers have been Cullberg Ballet’s defining characteristics. This spring, Cullbergbaletten curates and produces a festival for contemporary dance - LABO Stockholm. The festival presents performances, workshops and talks and takes place 11-21 April at different venues in Stockholm as a part of the European network Life Long Burning and in close collaboration with Moderna Museet, MDT, Scenkonstmuseet / Swedish Museum of Performing Arts, Danscentrum Stockholm. LLB (Life Long Burning) is a project supported by the Culture Programme of the European Union and dedicated to the sustainable support of the European contemporary dance and performance field and the enlargement of its audience. The week of good news continues! Cullbergbaletten is invited to the International Festival of Contemporary Dance of La Biennale di Venezia this summer with Figure a Sea by Deborah Hay and Laurie Anderson. The 12th International Festival of Contemporary Dance of the Venice Biennale will run from June 22 to July 1, showcasing several daily events. Figure a Sea shows June 30 at Teatro alle Tese.
