Jolene found her passion for health and wellness at an early age. She played waterpolo at a provincial level, she represented her province for swimming, and participated at a competitive level in other sports including field hockey, indoor hockey, softball, and volleyball.
She matriculated at Hillcrest High School after being Head Girl, and after receiving awards of “Best Ambassador of the School”, “Best All Rounder”, and the “SRC trophy for Good Service to the School”. Jolene also achieved Honours for Academics as well as Full and Half Colours for numerous sports.
Jolene went on to study her first of 3 degrees, the Bachelor of Sport Science. She graduated top of her class with “summa cum laude”. Because of her undergraduate success, Jolene was awarded “ Best Student who Exemplifies the Professional Ideal in the School of Physiotherapy, Sport Science & Optometry” as well as the award for the “Best 3rd Year Sport Science Student Qualifying for Biokinetics Honours”.
Whilst studying Sport Science, Jolene found her passion in the clinical application of physiology and anatomy. She thus continued on to complete her postgraduate studies, where she graduated with her Honours in Biokinetics (“summa cum laude”) top of her class, again. This meant she was given the award for “Best Biokinetics Honours  Student” and for “Best Biokinetics Honours Student in a Practical Examination”. Her thesis (“The Effect of Short-Term Isometric Handgrip Exercise on Blood Pressure in Middle-Aged Females”) was published in the Cardiovascular Journal of Africa.

Whilst engaging in her internship, Jolene completed her Master of Sport Science postgraduate degree (“cum laude”). Her thesis (“Sport Stacking in Auditory and Visual Attention of Grade 3 Learners”) leant to another publication, which was published in the Journal of Perceptual and Motor Skills.
Apart from these publications, Jolene has presented at medical conferences Nationally.

Jolene pursued a career in private practice following her full time studies, and opened up JM Biokinetics in 2012. Due to her passion for teaching and educating, she lectured for various institutions part-time.

In her dealings with patients, Jolene found a need for more specific exercise prescription with regards to chronic disease patients (arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, obesity) as well as with orthopedic patients (lower back pain, joint pain, etc.). Being a keen researcher herself, she started her PhD with the aim to specify these further. She thus started researching the “Effect of High Intensity Training on Lipolysis, Glycolysis and Adipokines on Young Adults”. After some interesting finds, Jolene decided to put her PhD on hold so as to pursue her career in private practice and business.
Apart from running a successful Biokinetics practice, Jolene ran many 8 week “fat loss’ challenges. Because of her background as a Biokineticist, Jolene was able to ensure that every participant was able to get the optimal benefit of the challenge, without injuring themselves.

Jolene now resides in Sandton, Gauteng and is pursuing various business opportunities. Her passion for health and wellness, however, remains her driving force.
