6 August 2017 Young guns Watchmen vs Young guns Avengers. 40 over u13 match played at Hoskins park. A crisp wind blew over the fields on the last game of 2017. Wian Plotz from the Avengers won the toss and decided to bowl first. Sean Colquhoun and Gerhard Cremer opened things up for the Watchmen. Some accurate bowling saw the batting side reduced to 11/1 after 5 overs. Michael Coetzer was unfortunately run out after smashing a few quick boundries, and the Watchmen were 29/2 after 10 overs. Reynier Swart came in with Sean and they put on 56 runs for the 3rd wicket. But the Avengers came back with a few fast sticks, which took the score to 85/4 after 20 overs. After Reynier was dismissed "LBW" for 53 runs by Jp Pienaar. Anthony Barnard came in to stabilise things for the batters. Anthony ended up with 43* and saw the 40 overs complete with the score on 225. Best bowling was Zander Lindeque 2/23 Wian jv Rensburg 3/42 Wian Plotz 1/20 Tristan Bester 1/25 Jp Pienaar 1/21 Lohan Muller 1/18 After lunch Tiaan Haywood and Richard Barnard came out with a very aggressive approach. They took the score to 43/0 after 9 overs, before the Watchmen took 2 quick wickets. Christopher Swart (30) and Lohan Muller (24) put on 54 runs for the 3rd wicket, before Liam Lloyd removed both players. The score was now 122/4 after 20 overs. Wickets kept falling at regular intervals, and the Avengers were 178/6 after 28 overs. Tristan Bester (35) took things very close. The Avengers were now 193/8 after 30 overs. When Sheldon Bester went out the score was 197/9 after 31. Ruan v Heerden and Zander Lindeque inched their way closer and closer, and took it right to the wire. Ruan was well caught out by Brandon Haynes with the Avengers falling just 4 runs short. Best bowlers were Ruan Riekert 1/29 Reynier Swart 1/18 Brendon Schmidt 1/33 Liam Lloyd 3/33 Ivahn vd Merwe 3/32 Brandon Haynes 1/6 Well done to both teams for a brilliant game. Thanks to the parents for all of your support throughout the season.

30 July 2017 Young guns Watchmen vs Benoni Northerns u13 played at Kempton Hoër. On a beautiful warm winters day, Benoni won the toss and elected to field first on what looked like a day 3 test match track.... Hard and flat. Ivahn vd Merwe and Janco du Preez opened the batting for Young Guns, and got off to an absolute flyer. They scored 132 for the opening wicket before Ivahn was caught at cover for 37 from 35 balls. Brendon Schmidt joined Janco and together they took the score to 206/1 after 21 overs. Janco du Preez then went to his maiden century. 100*(73) before he retired. He really batted superbly. The visitors fought back well with 2 quick wickets, it was now up to skipper Brendon and Sean Colquhoun to rebuild things just a little. Sean got a jaffer of a leg break from Jordan, and was dismissed for 18 (32). The score was now 286/4 after 31 overs. Reagan Patrick then came in with his Captain, and they added an unbeaten 90 runs for the 5th wicket. Reagan finished off on 50* from 30 balls and Brendon Schmidt got 100* from 60 deliveries. Both of these were sheer masterclass innings. Young guns were 376/4 after 40 overs. After lunch Young guns took 2 quick wickets, but Benoni northerns were not going to just give up. Jordan and Jack went onto the counterattack and blazed the leather sphere to all parts. They were 112/3 after 16 overs, and looking very strong. Eventually Jordan got a ball from Anthony Barnard that kept a tad low. He was dismissed for 45 runs.... but it was the pressure from Anthony that created the false stroke. Then there were a few wickets that fell at regular intervals. Reagan Patrick, Liam Lloyd and Dean Hancker all chipped in. The score was now 200/7 after 29 overs, and the task for the visitors seemed very large at this point. However, this did not stop Jack from smashing his way to 122 runs off of 94 balls. He really batted very cleverly. Owen Stolle gave jack some beautiful support with a fantastic 27* (34). But in the end Benoni northerns ended on 289/9 from 40 overs and the Watchmen were victorious. Notable bowling figures were Liam Lloyd 4/84 Reagan Patrick 2/19 Dean Hancker 1/50 Anthony Barnard 1/11 Thanks a lot to all the parents, Brendon and his Northerns team. It was a great game to umpire.

23 july 2017 Young Guns Thunderbolts vs Vereeniging u11 at Vereeniging. After a Great warm up by thw boys Captain Chris.. won the Toss and decided to have a bowl first on a dry looking pitch..The first over proving that Young Guns made the right choice to have a Bowl first..Kayden started with a briliant 1st over picking up 2 wickets,from there Young Guns great fielding and tight bowling restricted Vereeniging to 136 in 26.3 overs.. Kayden Dickinson .. 5-36-3 Ryan Smith .. 6-8-1 Keagan Lewis 5-17-4 Chris Combrinck .. 3-8-2 Young guns went in to batt and had a great start, Wian Riekert (B) and Wian Riekert (R) forming a 84 run 3rd Wicket partnership to take the game away from vereeniging ... Shaun Nash in next looked in a hurry and finished off the game in Style.. Wian Riekert (B)-37 Wian Riekert(R)-25 Shaun Nash-35* Young guns won by 6 wickets and 7 overs to spare. Thanks to all the players of both teams for a great game.

23 july 2017 Young guns Avengers vs Strikers u13 at hoskins park. Strikers went in to bat first and got off to a handy start, but lost a few wickets in quick succession and at 20 overs were 86/4. Matthew 21, Sean 22 and Joshua 23 scored the most an took the score to 149/10. Bowling figures were Ruan Riekert 5.0 - 0/20 Liam Lloyd 5.1 - 2/15 Jayden Kelfkens 5.0 - 0/21 Janco du Preez 4.0 - 3/23 Reynier Swart 5.0 - 2/26 Ruben Riekert 4.0 - 1/13 Tristan Bester 2.0 - 1/11 Julian vd Merwe 3.0 - 0/15 Young guns came in to bat and started off well. They were 41/1 after 10 overs. Anthony Barnard 24 batted well until he was well caught in the covers. At 20 overs the score was 95/5. There were a few players that chipped in, but the 30* cameo innings from the skipper Ruben Riekert is what really did the damage. Young guns won by 3 wickets and 8 overs to spare. Thanks to all the players of both teams for a great game.

16 july 2017 40 over u13 match played at the hpc in pretoria. Young guns vs tuks Tuks batted first and were off to a reasonable start. With the score at 70/2 after 20 overs, they had a good platform to accelerate in the last 20. This is exactly what they did, thanks to Thebe 94*(87) batted really well for the home team. Tuks ended on 226/4 after 40 overs. The best bowlers were: Wian Riekert 1/34 Sheldon Bester 1/30 Skipper Ruben Riekert did brilliantly well, with 2 fantastic run outs. After lunch Young guns were off to an absolute cracker. Christopher Swart and Tristan Bester took the visitors to 50/0 after 4 overs, before Christopher was caught for 21(10). Reynier Swart joined Tristan who put on a further 56 runs together. Tristan was caught out at deep mid wicket for 68(43). This took the score to 125/2 after 14 overs. Reynier ended on 67*(81) with Aj Smith 19(29) and Ivhan vd Merwe 18*(16) supporting him well. YGCA ended on 227/4 with 8 overs to spare. Thanks a million to all the guys at Tuks for the privilege to play with you guys. We look forward to more games next winter league.

9 july 2017 Young guns Watchmen vs Presidents invitational Xi played at hoskins park. 50 over game Frost covered grass saw the parents arrive at the facilities in Brakpan, where the visiting skipper Gareth Matthysen won the toss and decided to bat first. The Presidents xi got off to a slow start with the score after 10 overs was 32/1. Keanu Cilliers 43 and Gareth Matthysen 55 got together and built a wonderful partnership together. At the 25th over the Presidents xi were 126/3 and were now looking to start accelerating proceedings. However the pace bowlers from Young guns had different ideas they took 4/35 from overs 35 to overs 42. Richard Barnard 54 played well to get the visitors to 268/10 after 48 overs. Notable bowling figures were" Gerhard Cremer 2/9 Reynier Swart 2/16 Michael Coetzer 2/27 Ruan Riekert 2/46 Ivahn vd Merwe 1/27 Janco du Preez 1/39 Young guns started off briskly but lost Anthony Barnard 19 and Janco du Preez 20 early on. Janu v Zyl was also unfortunately runout cheaply. The score was 75/3 after 13 overs, Ivahn vd Merwe 41* and Reynier Swart 30* put in solid scores to stabilise the middle order. After they retired, Gareth Matthysen came in to bowl a magnificent spell of 6 overs 2/10. This swung the momentum back to the invitational xi. But Brendon Schmidt 31* and Michael Coetzer 24* finished things off. Young guns won by 4 wickets with 2 overs to spare. Well done to all the players, and thanks to the parents for making this awesome contest a reality.
