Bella Breza's top star, Jonathan Dexter Weatherspoon was three years old on Thursday. He celebrated by wearing his best bowtie and getting lots of cuddles, a big piece of banana and a whole digestive biscuit... lucky lad that he is.

Just now, in the forest behind the house we have the Lesser Butterfly Orchids in bloom. These wonderful, rare flowers are night scented to attract the moths that pollinate them. Any wonder that they are a protected plant?

The early yellow orchids in the forest edge are dying back now and the next flush of Early Purple Orchids and even a few White Orchids are in the ascendancy.

As regular visitors will know, we live in one of the oldest recorded settlements in Slovenia. The church in the village in it's current form was built in 1617 and the bell tower was added later. In the bell tower, up some rickety stairs is the remains of a 17C fresco of St Christopher carrying the Christ child on his back. As it is mostly in the dark the colours are remarkably well preserved considering the age of this ancient artwork. I was able to photograph this just yesterday. While we ponder this, consider that in the forest edge above our house are the remains of something even older, pre-dating even the Roman settlement and the Mithras alter to be seen in the outer wall of the bell tower. A Celtic Fort no less.
