Here we are with the fantastic plant of August! For this month the winner is... Zea mays L. - Koruza This beautiful plant is covering a big part of the fields of Lendava in these days, but this is not just a awesome company of this last period of summer, but also a very important dietary cereal all over the world. This an annual monoic herbaceous plant of the family of Poaceae, who comes from America, and who was very utilized from popolations like Aztecs, Mayas and Incas. As everybody know it produces a spike (the female efflorescence, generally known as cob) full of caryopsis, the seeds...the tasty one you use to prepare pop-corns :) This seed is tasty but also rich of energy, mineral salts (potassium, phosphorus), vitamin B1, vitamin B9 and two antioxidants carotenoids: lutein and zeaxanthin, which protects the cells of retina. As said before corn is a monoic plant, this means that it has on the same plant the female and the male flowers, but a part of the female flower (the stigma) has a very strong diuretic and depurative effect, so we can use to regenerate ourselves after the summer parties :) Here is a simple recipe: Cynodon dactylon L. radix 20 g Betula pendula Roth folium 20 g Ononis spinosa radix 20 g Zea mays L. stigmi 20 g Mentha aquatica L. 20 g Na zdravje! :) See you next plant! P.S. we also leave you the link of a beautiful and peaceful place where they use corn leaves to make themself many different products :) http://www.pomelaj.si/

Late as always but better late than never! :) For the month of july the winner is... Heliantus annuus L. - Sončnica A very typical summery flower, let’s discover something about it. The most important commercial part is the flower, which is not a normal flower although a bouquet of pretty little flower, named inflorescence, that’s the reason why the old family name of sunflower is Compositae (nomen conservandum), which in latin means composed of (of flowers). In the language of flower sunflower means loyalty, devotion...do you know why? This comes from the Greek mythology! The history is about the nymph Clizia, in love with the God Apollo, who used to look at him all day long...but worn out from love she became this beautiful flower, who always chase the sun. The seeds of this plants are popular healthy snacks, very rich in folic acid and different types of B vitamin, essential for the regeneration of cells. They are also rich in E vitamin (a strong antioxidant) and in mineral salts like iron, zinc, phosphorus and selenium. The oil obtained from sunflower seeds is good for cooking but also for skin, because of its content of E vitamin, you can use it to prepare a macerate with calendola, fantastic for burns, scars and cracked skin. You just need: -sunflower seeds oil -dried calendola flowers. The relationship between flowers and oil should be 1:10, so if you use 10 g of flowers then you must use 100 ml of oil. Put everything in a glass container under the sun for 3 weeks/a month, and at the end filter everything, your macerate is ready to use! :) See you next plant!

Eh? What? It’s already July? Ups, yes! But...no feaaar, we dind’t forget the plant of June B) For this month the winner is…… Matricaria chamomilla L. - Kamilica I think chamomille is one the most used and known plants and doesn’t need to be introduced. Who has never drunken a hot cup of chamomille in a cold night in front of the fire? :) Well, chamomille has not just a pleasant flavour, it’s also a fantastic remedy for stomachache and menstrual pains, thanks to a combination of terpenes able to relax the smooth muscles. Furthermore it’s also rich in mucilages and chamazulene which are good anti inflammatory, for internal use (stomach acidity) but in particular, for external use, for burns and skin reddening. And what about the blonds all over the world? Say thanks to this marvelous flower, which is really rich in flavonoids, and make our hair more gold :) And...to end with a bang, we suggest a recipe to taste this flower in a different way, more summery and to help digestion: Chamomilla recutita L. 20 g Mentha piperita L. 20 g Foeniculum vulgare Miller 20 g Melissa officinalis L. 20g Pimpinella anisum L. 20 g See you next plant!

Hi! What a nice weather, what are we going to do in the weekend? Let’s take a bike and have a look around! That’s what we did one weekend with our friend Rayan. We crossed the border and after fifteen minutes of police control, we had an ice-cream in Mursko Središče. The city is nice, lies on the river Mura. You can have a drink in a characteristic bar and relax along the river. Ah, it has cars falling from the walls! Take care.
