Today Russian #communists celebrate VLADIMIR LENIN’s birthday (born on April 22, 1870). 🎂 St. Petersburg was named after #Lenin for about 70 years (1924-1991).🎋We still have 7 museums in the city devoted to the leader of the #Bolsheviks #Revolution📍. After visiting 4 of them today, I am happy to say that Soviet –style museums are not boring now, display works by contemporary artists on Lenin and sometimes introduce interactive games.📍 This is how artists see Lenin today.

The evening sun🌞 is revealing the beauty of the colonnade of #KazanskyCathedral (cathedral of Our Lady of Kazan), built from 1801 till 1811.⛪ All 96 COLUMNS are made from Pudost stone (mined in a village of Pudost, 50 km/30 miles to the south of St. Petersburg), which resembles Italian #travertine stone, a lime-based material. This stone is easily quarried, sawed and cut out; extracted from the earth, it quickly hardens.⏳ The porosity of the stone could have been dangerous in our climate and #architect A. Voronikhin had to use a special filler - alabaster from #Riga to smooth the surface of the Pudost stone & then grayish-yellow paint on top to imitate the basic shade of the Pudost stone. The outer walls are faced with this light stone like St. Peter’s #Basilica in the #Vatican is faced all around with polished travertine.⛪ Learn more about #Russia! Travel with us!!❤ WELCOME!❤

There are over 100 #theatres in #StPetersburg. The city is popular not only for its ballet and opera houses but for its drama and comedy performances as well. Tonight #FRIDA, a flamenco-play was on at the State Variety Theatre👠. Everything was #perfect: the plot and staging, #dancing, and #singing, #dresses and costumes, timing and desserts😄. WELCOME! !

Today on 18 April the INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR MONUMENTS AND SITES is celebrated all over the world! The cultural heritage of Russia is very rich and we have to preserve it and take better care of some monuments.😐 In the heart of St. Petersburg there are some buildings in a very bad state – they need renovation and (or) conservation. One of them is the MANSION of Russian merchants BROUSNITSYNY with a White Dancing Hall in the style of Louis XV; Renaissance Dining Room; Moorish style Smoking Room; Rococo Sitting Room, etc. A lot more stories for you when you are in St. Petersburg.
