Today we were notified by FEMA that we are ineligible for assistance because: "FEMA has determined you are not eligible for Housing Assistance because the damage caused by the disaster has not made your home unsafe to occupy" and "FEMA has determined you are not eligible for Housing Assistance because you indicated you have insurance that may cover your housing losses" Clearly we are terribly dissapointed that it took so long (over two months) to reach this conclusion and we are of course puzzled by the FEMA definitions of what is safe to occupy and they knew of our insurance coverage at the time of applying. Indeed, we are grateful to have the proverbial roof over our heads while doors and windows are not quite as important. Since our home is also our business, we learned that FEMA can only address one or the other. However, despite this set-back we are fully committed to making Casa Flamboyant better than ever and we thank everyone for the continued support and generosity. Who needs FEMA when we have had such generous friends.
As the rainforest slowly comes back we want to express our gratitude and how thankful we are to all of our family, guests and friends for their love, support and encouragement. We will see you all very soon better than ever. https://www.ted.com/talks/louie_schwartzberg_nature_beauty_gratitude
Part of El Yunque National forest, El Yunque peak, is one of the highest in Puerto Rico, standing at 1,080 meters (3543 feet) above sea level. The Taíno referred to the peak as yuké, or "The White Lands", in reference to the thick cloud shroud that always surrounds it. This mountain range diverts the wind of hurricanes, minimizing the damage that the storms do to the lower parts of the island. The Taíno Gods Yúcahu and Juracán have had their battle. Yúcahu is known as the deity of peace and tranquility, he represented goodness. This was contrasted greatly by the goddess Guabancex (more commonly known as Juracán) whose fierce nature was regarded as responsible for bringing forth chaos. Yúcahu was believed to have a throne in El Yunque peak. His soldiers are the ancient trees of El Yunque. He lost many soldiers but in the end he won the battle and Juracán left.
Hello Everyone. Casa Flamboyant is still standing strong, even without cell service, internet, power and in the midst of repairs. Florin, Obi and I want to thank you all for reaching out to us. Many have asked how you can help us. Thank you to Kimberly Sweatland for setting up a Go Fund Me page. I have added the link. For all of you that have already shown such generosity we are so very grateful and overwhelmed by the love and support. https://www.gofundme.com/help-florin-ricky-obi-recover
Maria has given us a better view of the river and waterfall. We are working on cleaning up to have you all visit us as soon as possible. Sorry we can not respond to messages as to connect we need to drive about 2 hours for signal. Thank you all for your continued support!
To everyone. Florin, Obi and I are safe and ok. There are no communications on the island so we can not respond to everyone personally. Thank you all for the well wishes and prayers. As communications come up more information to follow. -- Ricky
