Theatre and Film Studies
Description
The department of Theatre and Film Studies, Redeemer's University Why study Theatre and Film Studies? We study theatre and film as a performing art and as a cultural process in order to provoke a more direct understanding of ourselves as participants in, and as performers and consumers of culture. Students of Theatre and Film Studies are encouraged to work both as artists and scholars at all levels: they are trained to read, think and write, and also to create, act, direct, shoot and edit films. Courses in Theatre and Film Studies integrate theory and practice, with performance and digital film work, serving as grounds for scholarly writings and research, thus having the potential to provoke artistic experimentation. In studying both theatre and film, students delve into various theories of representation and performance as well as the practice of acting, directing, stage management, lighting, costuming, playwrighting and the likes.
