Vision
To be a world-class institution for academic excellence geared towards meeting societal needs. The Medical school was founded in 1948 with 14 students, as the University College at Ibadan, an external college of the University of London. In 1962, two years after Nigeria’s independence, the University College became the University of Ibadan with independence from the University of London.The Medical School curriculum was then changed so that medical students would be trained better for the Nigerian environment in which they would practice.
The Faculty of Medicine was restructured into a College of Medicine with effect from 1st of August 1980
The Ibadan College of Medicine is the oldest and most prestigious medical school in sub-Saharan Africa, and has been a center of excellence in learning for over five decades. It has a formidable track record for health manpower development, and has played a pivotal role in clinical research in Africa.
Ibadan has trained more doctors than any other school in sub-Saharan Africa, and has eminent graduates in Medicine
