The difference between Tequilas - Blanco, Reposado or Anejo After distilling fermented agave juice, you've produced blanco (white) tequila. This can be consumed as-is, or you can place it in oak casks to age, similar to what's done with whiskies and brandies. During this process the liquor absorbs various chemicals from the wood as well as from whatever was in the cask before (perhaps whiskey or wine). The distinction between reposado (rested) and añejo (aged) tequilas is how long they're left in the casks. Generally añejo indicates tequilas that are casked for a year or more. And then there is the Gold and Silver Tequila Other names for silver tequila are blanco or white tequila. Gold tequila is also called joven tequila. Silver tequilas typically have a smoother taste than gold tequilas. Silver tequilas can be used for shots or mixed drinks, whereas gold tequilas usually don't have the smooth taste required for shots. Silver and gold tequilas tend to be the lowest-quality tequilas.
