Homebase for the youngest generation artists and art lovers > www.showroommama.nl MAMA exists for 15 years and has turned into a much discussed and influential platform offering an intractable, kaleidoscopic view on contemporary visual culture to be seen and experienced by a broad audience.

Over the years, MAMA developed into an expert in the field of youth- and contemporary visual culture and found itself at the foundation of an active development in Dutch art, aimed at participation. The original target group aged 16 - 26, has been active in the organization from the beginning. In 2005 / 2006 MAMA developed two educational courses intended to develop talent: MAMA Rookies, a course for auxiliary jobs in the cultural field and Rookies MA (formerly Mister Miyagi Curating Tomorrow), a DIY curatorial traning course.

MAMA also participates in projects and workshops by others. In its programme and educational courses the organization frequently collaborates with other cultural institutions at home and abroad.

A screening event in conjunction with HOST, with artists' films from the great beyond. Presented by: Basje Boer Location: WORM Rotterdam Date & Time: Sunday 4 February, 20:30 hours (20:00 Doors Open) Tickets: €5,- pre-sale / €6 at the door (free entry with a Cineville or WORM membership) ---- On February 4, MAMA presents a smörgåsbord of artists' films injected into our rational world from realities parallel and beyond. MAMA invites you to a film programme, inspired by motifs from the exhibition HOST, where out-of-body experiences meet expeditions deep into the cavities of bodies. Flesh, blood, pixels, bits & glitches, LARP, RPG, and 80's and 90's cartoon series mix with bold soundtracks, in an attempt to reconcile technology and the body. Curiously, motifs such as the news broadcast and the documentary resurface time and again as a way of dealing with the impending apocalypse. Includes work by Peter Burr, Jeremy Coulliard, Ville Kallio and many others. **Contains violent imagery** The evening is introduced and presented by Basje Boer, film critic and novelist, who publishes for De Groene Amsterdammer, Filmkrant, Das Magazin en De Gids among many other titles. Her debut novel Bermuda came out in May 2016, her new novel will appear in 2018.

The 21st of December is the shortest day of the year, where the sun is at its lowest point. On this day, we are celebrating the return of the light and the winter solstice. In the natural surroundings of the Proefpark de Punt, we explore local mythologies, the supernatural, and the body as a prism for new modes of thinking. The evening begins with a lecture by Urban Witch Amanda Wams, who discusses the love affair between the God of the Maas and the Rotte River Nymph. (Dutch spoken – English handout provided). The evening culminates with a new work by Eothen Stearn, SHEE-LA-NA-GIG, a performative lecture incorporating image, music, and text and taking influences from Denise Diderot, Jean Genet, vagina loquens folklore, and experimental 1970’s porn. ´Witching Ain´t Easy´, a new essay by London-based writer and editor Phillipa Snow, will be presented during this evening. --- Clothing advice: This is an outdoor event. Although there are heaters and shelter, we advise dressing for cold, wet weather. ---- The celebration of the winter solstice takes place as part of the exhibition HOST – a duo exhibition featuring work by Jaakko Pallasvuo & Anni Puolakka and Tarwuk – on show at MAMA until 11 February 2018. ---- For more information check our website: www.showroommama.nl
