Nicola is a freelance practitioner, specialising in Theatre for Young Audiences, private music tuition, drama & storytelling. Set your imagination free! Nicola Dereham is a freelance drama, music and singing practitioner. She gained her BA (Hons) in Performing Arts at University of Chichester, and followed up with a spell in the music and drama departments of a secondary school, before joining the Learning and Participation team at Chichester Festival Theatre. After completing her one year 'apprenticeship' at CFT, Nicola attended an Advanced Performance course at Birmingham School of Acting, and then went on to achieve a Merit in her Masters Degree in TYA (Theatre for Young Audiences) at the prestigious Rose Bruford College, whilst also being a member of the MA Theatre for Young Audiences company, Floods of Ink.
Nicola's other experiences include working with Stagecoach Theatre Arts, Half Moon Young People’s Theatre, Birmingham Rep, MAC Arts (Birmingham), Leamington and Warwick Academy of Dance, the New Theatre Royal, Portsmouth, Groundlings Theatre and Disneyland Paris! Nicola has performed at the Royal Festival Hall, The Mayflower and Guildhall in Southampton, The King’s Theatre and Gunwharf Quays Portsmouth, Southsea Festival, Fareham's Ashcroft Arts Centre, Bournemouth International Centre, Royal Spa Centre in Leamington Spa, Titchfield Festival Theatre, Portsmouth Historic Dockyards including HMS Warrior, and Groundlings Theatre.
Nicola has also worked in partnership with The Art Academy Portsmouth, Drama for Schools, Young Creatives Portsmouth, Cantando Music, and Portsmouth Music Service, where she thoroughly enjoyed sharing her music and drama skills with other like-minded local practitioners. She is a freelance Associate Artist of the New Theatre Royal, Portsmouth, and is an Arts Award Assessor for Discover, Explore, Bronze and Silver certificates. Nicola is also a regular visiting practitioner for OmniArts Performing School, whose director, Becki Short, also works with Nicola's own theatre company, Roots and Wings. Her television debut was when she was 5 years old on beloved children's programme, Playdays (so cute!).
During college and university, Nicola began to explore the world of Theatre in Education, but it was while she was at Rose Bruford that she fell in love with 'Early Years' children, and was inspired to start her own company, specialising in drama and music for this age range. In 2012, her TYA company, Roots and Wings, was born.
Nicola's musical career started when she was 5 years old, and now offers one-to-one tuition in Piano, Violin, Singing, Musical Theory and Audition Coaching. Trained as a classical musician with a passion for musical theatre, she believes in a friendly, relaxed services in a variety of musical styles for all ages and abilities, for exams or pleasure.
In October 2016, Nicola moved with her partner, David, to Luxembourg. She worked part time as a teaching assistant in a Montessori crèche for 6 months, before setting up as self employed full time from her home in Mamer.

So here are the details for my 4 new music & drama classes starting in September, based at Mamerhaff asbl: Thursdays 4-5pm - a drama class for 7-10yr olds, exploring drama through games, exercises & imagination! Starting Thursday 21st September, €10 per child, block payments TBC. Thursdays 5-6pm - a drama group for 11-14yr olds, exploring drama through games, exercises, improvisation & scripts! Starting Thursday 21st September, €10 per child, block payments TBC. Fridays 9-10am - Sing Along Mums! A fun & relaxed singing group, exploring a variety of musical genres, harmonies & a capella. Starting Friday 22nd September, €10 per adult, block payments TBC. Refreshments provided afterwards. Fridays 10-11am - want to join in Sing Along Mums but have a little one to worry about? No problem! Bring them along & stay to join in with a Singing & Storytelling group, up to under 5yr olds are welcome. Exploring well known children's songs, creative play, props, & most importantly, freedom for imagination! Some Makaton Sign Language will be used during songs. Starting Friday 22nd September, €10 per child, block payments TBC. *There will be a rota with Sing Along Mums to watch any children during the first class* If you are interested in any of the classes, please contact me via nicola@nicoladereham.com, with the name of the group in the subject box. So I'm extremely pleased to announce that I will be launching not 1, not 2, but 4 groups classes in September!! 😄 that's right folks, 4 new music and drama classes for adults and children will be starting from mid September. The classes will be in English and held at the newly built family centre, Mamerhaff asbl, in Mamer. Very excited to be collaborating with them, final times are being confirmed and I'll be advertising the classes during the week. Watch this space! 🎭 🎶

For all new students starting with me, my address doesn't appear on Google Maps, don't ask me why! You need to search for Rue Sigefroi in Mamer (opposite l'Ultimo restaurant), go down that street, turn left onto Rue Ermesinde & then Rue Yolande is on your right. My apartment buzzer is the one that says 'Forshaw-Jubb', top floor. Any problems, just call or text me for help. Please remember to firmly shut the foyer door behind you when arriving for or leaving your lesson, as the door does not close and lock automatically. If traveling by bus, take the no.222 or the no.260 and stop at "Mamer, Mambra".
