Museums and Cultural Landscapes building up a Cultural Heritage Every three years, ICOM’s General Conference gathers the international museum community around a theme chosen by museum professionals.
More than 1,500 experts and museum professionals meet for a whole week to exchange and discuss museum concerns, based on scientific discussions with ICOM’s International Committees and museum and heritage nowadays burning issues.
ICOM’s 24th General Conference will take place in Milan (Italy), 3-9 July, 2016. In 2013, the Conference was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and in 2010 in Shanghai, China.
This year, the theme ”Museums and cultural landscapes” will explore the concept of the “open air museum”, dear to Italian museology, and analyze the relationship between museums and a landscape in constant evolution. It presents both an opportunity and a challenge for museums to revive their mission and strengthen their cultural and social role, as this central issue is a strategic perspective for the museums of the third millennium around the world.
