Making jig for gluing the braces and giving th decks a slight arch at the same time when placing the braces For those who may not know, top and bottom deck of a guitar need to be braced. I learned that the decks should have a small arch which serves as tension reliever of the wood as it expands and shrinks due to changing humidity in the environment , so I read on sites of other guitar makers . One way to achieve it is to glue the braces in a jig called a heaven. Now since I do not have spare funds to get one made I had to fall back on a DIY solution I used MDF as it is easy to work with, affordable and the surface is soft enough not to harm the surfaces of the decks First I did cut two boards of same size and a thin MDF board ( the stuff they use as the back on Ikea furniture) . I drew the guitar shape on to this board. Into the mirror (the heaven piece ) I added small counter sinks. This will make it easier to fit the dowels and keep then in position when gluing the braces On the bottom part of the jig I first set a small frame and fitted the this MDF board with the drawing onto it. I added two screws . This will allow to pull the board down in the center creating sort of an arch mould
