It’s always exciting to get new pieces but it is really exciting when one is as good as this painting by Suzanne D’Arcy Gaughan. Crows overlooking. a golden field with a most threatening sky. It’s a strong, Rich painting by Suzanne whose paintings are developing very strongly. Now would be a good time to pick one up before the prices start to rise. This piece is on sale for €390. Even if you are not in the market to buy, come on down to Rowe Street and have a look, you won’t regret it!

Martina Fitzgerald Martina Fitzgerald's first solo exhibition is “Memory Boxes” and it runs at The Denis Collins Gallery for the month of February 2019. Martina Fitzgerald is an actress best associated with RTE's Fair City which she appeared on for its first 10 years. Martina retired from acting to raise her children but now she finds that she needs an outlet for her artistic talents. All of her life Martina has dabbled with painting and interior design but it wasn't until she discovered mixed media art that she felt she now had a medium which she could share. Martina uses found items, sea shells from her local beach, wood pieces from her local forest walk and broken jewelry. She combines these on a beautifully painted back drop. Each piece is unique in its presentation and represents for Martina a special place in her life. Martina recently moved to Wexford with her husband and two children so that she could be nearer to nature and the sea which she loves. Martina is currently writing her first novel which is at the halfway stage and which she hopes will be finished for Christmas 2019.

“Memory Boxes” is the first exhibition by Martina Fitzgerald, and it features her mixed media creations which recall times past as well as romantic ideas, thoughts and places. Although the pieces are essentially abstract compositions the use of flowers, broken jewelry, crystals, shells and other found objects make them very accessible to viewers. Martina also uses painted back grounds and frames to mount and present her mixed media pieces. The official launch of Martina‘s exhibition will take place on Saturday 2nd Februaryfrom 2.30pm to 4.00pm when you can meet with Martina and talk with her about her work..

This Is another subtle painting by Michael McGuire called Storm Brewing, Wexford Quay. It was painted during Art in the Open 2018. Often when people paint boats on the Quay the paintings are strong demanding works. This one by Michael is a more meditative piece and even though a storm is brewing there is a strong sense that the boat is safely moored. This sense of safety oozes off the board and makes the viewer relaxed and calm. It’s front and centre in the gallery right now and worth a visit.

Hi folks the galley is open from 11.00am to 5.00pm this week. Ive been moving lots of pieces around and when I do this I always re-discover paintings and enjoy them all over again. This is one, a beautiful paintings by Carmel Fenlon, it is called "All Green" and it is a beautiful subtle painting that requires attention and time. You should come in and see it. The second painting is "Back-light Rathanna" by Michael McGuire. It's a fabulous painting that just keeps on giving. Its a quiet and gentle piece, beautifully painted with excellent composition. Although its a small painting you can keep going into it. The use of light is magnificent and it captures a quiet day really well; possibly too well as I often have to bring it to the attention of people and ask them to observe it. If you only come in to spend some time with these two paintings you will be well rewarded! Opening hours are 11.00am to 5.00pm Tuesday to Saturday.
