Ballyshunnock Reservoir
Description
Ballyshunnock reservoir is a 70 acre man made lake situated on the Portlaw road, 1 mile north of the junction with the N25 Cork road at Carroll's Cross in County Waterford, Ireland. The reservoir is managed as a mixed fishery by Waterford & District Coarse Angling Club. It is regularly stocked with brown trout of 1lb plus as well as a healthy native population. It also contains rudd, bream, tench and rudd/bream hybrids. The lake is split by the Portlaw road and there is good access from the two car parks to three sections of the lake allowing easy access to over half a mile of bank fishing. The trout fishing season runs from March 17th to September 30th. There is a catch limit of 3 trout per angler per day and only fish of over 30 cm can be taken. All other fish must be returned alive to the water and no coarse fish can be taken or killed. Permits cost €45 per year for adults, € 15 per year for under 18s and € 15 per day. Permits are available from Centra in Kilmeaden, Waterford Angling and Outdoor Centre (John O'Brien), Waterford, Titelines in Cappoquin, Baumanns in Dungarvan and Newtown Stores, Newtown. Membership of Waterford and District Coarse Angling Club also entitles to coarse fish the lake. Details available from 086 163 2462.

facebook.comWe are hoping to get some juniors up to the Grand Canal to fish the All Ireland Junior Canal Championships this year. It is being held on Saturday 19th May near Prosperous.We do not have the full details of the venue and times yet. Bait and tackle will be provided and coaches will be on hand to help out. We may also arrange a practice on a nearby canal. All junior members of the lake are welcome. If anyone is interested contact a committee member or reply to this post.
Good fishing on the weekend as the weather improves. Some nice rainbows on the fly were taken on Saturday.
Please note the Annual permit is 50 Euro at the shops or at the lake. No fishing without a permit and three fish rule applies. All coarse fish must be returned alive.
The lake will open on the 17th of March. The permit prices are as follows, Annual permit 50 euro U18 permit 10 euro Day ticket. 15 euro. All permits available at the usual outlets or at the lake on the opening day.

The lake is now closed to all fishing and will reopen on the 17th of March. St Patrick's Day
Good rainbows being caught today. Again please note that all brown trout must be returned alive by law.
Season closed for brown trout but rainbows can still be caught. Anglers are not allowed to kill coarse fish.
More rainbows caught yesterday on spinners. The lake is fishing well again.
Green algae almost gone from the lake and fishing well. Good rainbows taken over the weekend.
