Well done once again to many of our first and second class hurlers who were playing in Ballygunner this morning! Both teams performed brilliantly once more. And well done to all the junior infants and senior infants who were back training this morning!
Our boys had the most brilliant surprise today when the country's only canine member of the Defence Forces, Fionn the Irish Wolfhound and his handler James paid us a visit! James was fantastic in outlining the work of our Defence Forces and the boys were fascinated as they listened about the range of skills the army has to offer. Fionn was the most magnificent animal and he was a huge hit with the boys! To see boys who had a fear of dogs have their fears disappear as they met this gentle giant of a hound was a sight to behold! Huge thanks to James and Fionn and also to Miss Tallon for organising our special guests!
A huge well done to many of our first and second class hurlers who participated in an excellent blitz in Ballygunner with Mount Sion club this morning. We had two teams and both teams had three games and performed brilliantly throughout! Also a huge well done to all our new hurlers who turned up for coaching in the school for the first time this morning! There was a great turnout from our junior infants! Well done and see you all again next week!
Reminder that hurling coaching for our new junior infants begins this morning at 10.30am in the school. Also coaching for existing 5, 6 and 7s in school at same time. Our under 8s, mostly those born in 2010 are travelling to play in Ballygunner in two groups. Best of luck to all!
As the evenings brighten and the sound of ash against ash begins to fill the air, we decided to throw up a few photographs from the campus hurling archives and a few more besides! Feel free to tag and share!!
This Saturday sees a lot of activity on the hurling front! Our new junior infants take to Coaching for the first time at 10.30am on school astro turf. If weather bad, coaching will move indoors into school hall but will go ahead regardless. Bring hurley if you have it, if not it can be supplied. Helmets supplied also if required. All welcome, even those not attending Mount Sion School. Our under 8s will head to Ballygunner for their first games of 2018! Blue team will have their first game at 10.45am, White Team first match at 11.30am. Coaching for under 6s and 7s will also continue as normal at 10.30am in school. Any queries, private message here and we will advise.
Room 22 have been working on decimals and their place in the real world. Today, Mr Fanning's class went to the hall to mark out the world record long jump. The record is a staggering 8.92 metres! Our boys had Mr Kavanagh mark out their longest jumps-Christian and Brian topped the list! But at 2.98metres, we have a bit to go to match Mike Powell!! #realmaths
Pancake Tuesday fever swept through the school today! The scent of scrumptious fare wafting through the corridors made for a lot of uneasy teachers and students until their turn came to sample the source of the aroma! Room 22 were no different and thanks to Ms Cooney, Ms Grace and Mr Kavanagh for making it a very satisfying Pancake Day!! Not only were they well fed but they also learned how to make the perfect pancake and will document the procedure so they can practice their culinary skills at home too!!! Thanks a million to Miss Grace for her wonderful demo and a huge thanks to Miss Cooney who never fails to deliver for the boys on the special days!
Our Junior Infants were living it up in The Woodlands Hotel this morning. We were invited to join the Woodlands team for a pancake brunch. A huge thanks to Simun's Dad, Marun Bresic and all at The Woodlands Hotel for a fantastic morning with colouring pages, drinks and the most delicious pankcakes with a choice of toppings. The boys enjoyed their brunch while chatting and colouring with their friends. Thanks to Mrs. Coady Power, Ms. Coffey, Mrs. Barry, Ms. Whelan and Andrea for bringing the boys. 😁
