Description
Renowned 3rd Level Institute. Business, Science, Engineering, Health Sciences, Humanities, Computing, Education. Full & Part-time study. www.wit.ie Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) is the major provider of higher education in the South East. It is one of the largest IOT's in Ireland, with almost 10,000 students and 900 staff.
From the Institute’s establishment in 1970, the student community has grown to 8,000 full-time and 1,500 part-time students including 800+ international students from more than 70 countries.
WIT is clustered around five sites in Waterford City & County all within 5km of the city centre. The main campus is located on the Cork Road in Waterford. Facilities at all of these sites have seen considerable re-generation and development over the past decade including the investment of over €120 million in new buildings including state of the art library, Information & Communication Technology buildings, nursing & health sciences building, tourism & leisure building, sports campus and research & innovation buildings.
The portfolio of academic programmes at WIT is extensive, ranging from Higher Certificate right through to post-doctoral research and covering the Humanities, Health and Nursing, Science and Informatics, Engineering and Architecture, Business and Education. WIT’s range and scope reflect the changing needs of the South East as well as the country as a whole.
The relationship with the South East region is a defining characteristic of the Institute. The Institute has important relationships with community groups, local government, Chambers of Commerce and industry groupings and these collaborations often lead directly to programme development and delivery, research collaboration and other joint initiatives. WIT has particularly close relationships with industry & commerce, the professions and the public service for research, consultancy, student and graduate placements etc. A culture of entrepreneurship and innovation is fostered at all levels in the organisation.
WIT has formal academic exchange and research partnerships with over 40 universities worldwide. These range from the old established Universities such as Oxford, Trinity College Dublin and University College London to newer technological universities such as Budapest University of Technology and Nanjing University of Science and Technology.
WIT is one of the leaders in research in the Institute of Technology (IoT) sector. In the last ten years, the Institute has secured over €140 million in external research funding. The Institute has secured funding from all of the major funding agencies, including SFI, ERC and Enterprise Ireland. At the core of the Institute’s research ethos is its commitment to engagement and knowledge exchange with research partners, regional and national stakeholders and industry and WIT has an established record of large scale research collaborations with both indigenous enterprise and multi-nationals.
WIT has been a leader in the Irish higher education sector with regard to the provision of lifelong learning opportunities and access for disadvantaged groups and many of WIT's successful initiatives have been adopted by other colleges. WIT has responded to the growing requirement to provide educational routes for non-standard learner groups by developing expertise in the areas of flexible accreditation, outreach and flexible delivery modes.
The Institute is a major cultural resource for the region through its arts and music programmes, exhibitions, collections such as the Pauline Bewick ‘Seven Ages’ collection and events such as New Music Week. Over its forty year history WIT says it has made a distinct social and cultural contribution to the life of the region in addition to serving its educational needs.

EVERYONE THIS IS MY FRIEND ABBEY Abbey is most definitely the mother hen 😂 She's such a great person and always there to help (I guarantee she did my dishes more than once without complaining). She's the perfect friend for a sing-a-long!! Especially if it's Les Mis, Moana, or 1D. Homegirl even played 'Change Your Ticket' by One Direction when everyone was seeing me off at the bus stop! How great is that?! She's excellent and I loved having her as a roommate these past 5 weeks ❤️ (check her insta out also v aesthetically pleasing). Love ya girl! *p.s. more friends posts coming your way*

EVERYONE MEET MY GAL LINDSEY This girl is honestly so great! Getting to know her over the past 5 weeks has been fantastic. We laugh at all of the same things and she introduced me to my new found love, chicken vindaloo 😋. She's smart and fabulous with great clothes and a bomb Instagram(check her out v aesthetically pleasing). I love you Lindsey! Ireland wouldn't have been the same without ya! ❤️ *p.s. Insta followers, you're about to meet all my friends so get pumped!*
MY HEART IS SO FULL. I can not even begin to tell you how much I love these people! Ireland is a wonderful place, but these girls are even better. From bus rides, to late night roasts, to seeing me off tonight, y'all have made this trip impossibly grander. Thank you for being good to me even when I was hungry, hot, and cranky (I know that couldn't have been easy), and thank you for so many amazing memories that will stay with me forever. Can't wait to make some more. I love y'all so much. ☘️

too many feelings to put into words--Waterford, thanks for exceeding my expectations in every kind of way and becoming my temporary (& now very hard to leave) home. ++ thanks for bringing me a community that shows me love each and every day (even through my quirks and breakdowns). I'll see you again soon. 🇨🇮
Ireland thank you for giving me the greatest friends I've ever had and memories I'll never forget. Until next time🍻
