National Rowing Championships 2019 This year saw the largest ever entry to the All Ireland Rowing Championships which took place at the National Rowing Centre, Cork. On Friday some of our Junior 14/15 crews were competing in a very busy field. Our Mens J14 4X+ rowed a fierce race and we are delighted to report that they took the win by about 1 Foot, well done to Michael McGrath, John Murphy, Cillian Ahearne, Jack Kiely and to cox Bill Murphy. Stephen Quinn and Richie Queally were competing in the Mens J15 Single Sculls and rowed very well in what is a very competitive regatta, and also the boys first regatta at this level. Likewise Karen Carey competed in the womens J14 1X, again a very positive performance by Karen for her first time competing at this level. Well done to everyone and also to their coaching team who deserve just as much credit for their work in developing these young oarspeople. Saturday saw Lucy Massey, Orlagh Cottier and Anna Powell competing in the single sculls. Lucy and Anna were rowing in the Junior 18 Womens 1X and Orlagh in the Home International Time Trial. These are very competitive events and we are very proud of the girls performances. Sunday was another busy day for the club, with Paul and Kieran competing in the highly competitive Mens Junior Double Scull. This is one of the most competitive events in the Irish Rowing Championships and the boys gave it everything they had but narrowly missed out on a qualifying spot for the Semi's. An excellent performance nonetheless. Next up Ian Powell was racing in the J16 1X, Ian rowed a phenomenal race for his first competitive event in the single. Finally Caroline Gordon & Maurice Dunn represented in their respectful Single Scull Masters events and rowed very well. Congratulations to Lisa Murphy on winning three championship titles with NUIG Boat Club in the Womens Senior 4-, Inter 8+ and Senior 8+ (Castleconnel Composite)
