South Dublin County Sports Partnership (SDCSP) is 1 of a national network of 32 Local Sports Partnerships (LSPs) and was set up in 2007 after funding was received from the Irish Sports Council (ISC). South Dublin County Sports Partnership (SDCSP) is 1 of a national network of 32 Local Sports Partnerships (LSPs) and was set up in 2007 after funding was received from the Irish Sports Council (ISC).

SDCSP is part of the Co. Development Board network. There is a Co-ordinator who reports to a management committee made up of reps. from statutory agencies (SDCC, HSE, VEC, CDB), community (primary, secondary & third level education, local area support groups, chamber of commerce, ethnic minority) and sporting groups (GAA, FAI, IRFU, Athletics, Special Olympics, Fed. Of Irish Sports).

The principal goal of the SDCSP is to increase participation in sport/ physical activity among the community. In particular among certain target groups such as young children, teenage girls and women in general, people with disabilities, disadvantaged (socio-economic), older people and ethnic minorities.

The SDCSP will be looking at carrying out a number of functions to achieve its goal. These include; Information – being a conduit of info to/from clubs and groups, the ISC and national governing bodies of sport (NGBs). Info on grant availability, policy, events, clubs and facilities etc.

This year for World Cancer Day we are focusing on obesity and physical activity. The aim is to raise awareness that we all have the power to reduce our risk of getting cancer. Supporting Healthy Ireland, the National Cancer Control Programme and parkrun are partnering to encourage everyone to “Bring a friend to parkrun” on Saturday, 3rd February.
