How would you feel of all your documents and photographs were locked away and you lost access to them forever? Well there are some nasty virus infections currently doing the rounds which can put you in that very situation. Your data becomes encrypted and you are held to ransom for the key to decrypt them. Problem is that even after you pay, there is no guarantee you'll be supplied with the key! They are criminals after all. The simple solution is to make sure you have backups of all data you can't afford to loose. Backup, Backup, Backup! Don't trust your photos, documents etc. to remain intact forever on your computer. All too often I feel like a doctor breaking the worst of news about the patient. Pick up an external/USB hard drive and plug it into your computer regularly. A modern computer will ask you what you want to do with the drive when you first plug it in. Select backup/file history. Keep more than 1 copy of your important data. Prevention is better than cure.
